Lucknow seeks engineers, IT and BFSI professionals
The expansion of Lucknow, with people from Central and Eastern Uttar Pradesh relocating to the city for better quality of living and growth opportunities, has been a major booster for its jobs market. The growth in the service sectors including banks, telecom, insurance companies and PSUs has opened doors to new opportunities in the city
Lucknow registered an average growth of 2 per cent in hiring activity in the last four months (Jun-Sep 2014), more than the average growth rate in the metros. The city witnessed a double digit growth of over 20 per cent during May 2014, according to the TimesJobs.com RecruiteX.
What’s fueling the demand?
The population influx from Central and Eastern Uttar Pradesh is creating huge demand in real estate, resulting in a boom in construction activities in Lucknow. However, Real Estate is not the only industry flourishing in the city of the Nawabs. Other key sectors driving Lucknow’s job market include Manufacturing & Engineering, IT/Telecom and Consumer Durables/FMCG. Together these industries account for nearly 20 per cent of the total job postings, across functions.
Lucknow is further driven by the advantage of being the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Focused development initiatives, favorable policies, improved infrastructure and availability of low cost, fresh talent pool adds to the prospects of Lucknow becoming a key job hub.
Who’s in demand?
Hiring is buoyant for support functions including front office/administration, accounting & finance and HR. Business critical functions such as sales/business development and marketing/advertising are the other sought after profiles. These account for nearly 14 per cent of the total job postings in the city, according to TimesJobs.com data. Core profiles such as IT/telecom are also in demand.
Besides, with the real estate activity in full swing, there is considerabledemand for site engineers and project managers. Engineers accounted for nearly 5 per cent of the total demand in Lucknow, according to the TimesJobs.com data.
Demand is maximum for freshers and junior/entry level professionals. The 0-2 years and 2-5 years experience category accounted for over 60 per cent of the total job postings in Lucknow, reveals TimesJobs.com data. Middle level accounted for over 20 per cent of the total demand in the region, across sectors.
What does the future hold?
In the next three years, manpower demand will rise in the Real Estate sector. With expansion of IT/ITeS, Manufacturing & Engineering, Retail and BFSI businesses, the job prospects in the related profiles are expected to grow. The growth of the service sector in the city will lead to opportunities in commercial positions. R&D, logistics and supply chain profiles will also be in demand in times to come.
