Forget
Viagra. High levels of 'Love' hormone oxytocin can ramp up your sex
life like never before - by making orgasm more intense!
Those who took oxytocin before sex - especially men - reported slightly more intense orgasms as well as greater levels of contentment after sex, a fascinating research reveals.
"Our study demonstrates that oxytocin may alter specific aspects of sexual experience and partner interactions in healthy couples," said researchers from Hannover Medical School in Germany.
Previous studies have shown that oxytocin plays a role in relationship bonding.
But few studies have examined whether higher levels of the hormone affect sexual behaviour.
In the research, 29 healthy couples either took oxytocin nasal spray or a placebo spray before having sex in their home.
After sex, they jot down their experiences about their sexual experience as well as their feelings toward their partner in a survey form.
While oxytocin had no effect on sex drive or arousal for either men or women, it resulted in a more intense orgasm, especially men.
Men who took oxytocin said they felt more sexually satisfied after sex, the study noted.
Some women also reported that they were better able to share their sexual desires with their partners during sex.
According to the study, more research is required to see whether the hormone may help those with low sexual desire or erectile dysfunction.
The study was published in the journal Hormones and Behaviour.
