Nokia's Chennai Staff Gets Salary Hike by 200 Percent
Bangalore: Nokia has lately entered into a wage pact with one third of its Chennai manufacturing facility employees with a salary hike up by 200 percent.
Out of 9000, around 3000 employees at the Chennai facility will now be earning 21000, from 7000 that they received before. Other employees are also said to receive hikes of varying degrees.
Once an undisputed leader in the mobile phone sales, Nokia was losing on market shares to rivals like Apple and Samsung. However, the company is now hoping on getting back with its Lumia series of Smartphones that it introduced recently.
Based on certain policies Nokia was not ready to share the details of the agreement between company and its employees as told to ET.
Also Employees will make around 3500 a month in the first year of employment. They will receive a dearness allowance of 300 in the second year and in the third year, their salary will be hiked to 10, 800 a month.
Nokia has also set up death relief funds for its employees, where 5 lakhs will be given to the family of the employee dyeing of natural causes.
Nokia plant was set up at Sriperumbudur in 2006. The company has invested over 1800 crore in scaling up manufacturing operations. This plant, which is Nokia’s largest handset manufacturing facility in the world employs over 9000 people out of which women constitute 55 percent.
