Career aspirations vary between the job seekers at metros and remote locations. While the former choose money; the latter opt for career growth and money together.
What are the key challenges in attracting talent in remote locations?
One of the primary challenges is the non-availability of right technology for communication in remote areas. Without proper internet access and facilities, it gets difficult for recruiters to contact prospective candidates. Also, it is not always feasible to travel to these locations in order to conduct the recruitment process.
Another challenge that we often face is the willingness of candidates to move out of their comfort zones. Since, a lot of factors need to be taken into consideration when pursuing a job in a different city, we often see good candidates backing out as they do not wish to relocate.
Do you hire talent locally? If yes, how do you lure talent available in metros to join work at remote locations?
A large percentage of our talent is sourced locally. However, we are always on a look out for good candidates and do participate in job fairs in smaller cities. Also, it is less about luring and more about motivating them to join your company. Good career opportunities, good working environment and safety at work place are some of the important factors that motivate candidates to join an organisation. The youth today is educated and smart enough to make the right career decisions and not lose growth opportunities that come their way.
Does the career aspirations of employees working in remote areas different from their urban counterparts?
The aspirations do not differ between candidates, but the intensity of their aspirations differs for employees from very remote areas and those from the metros. For the urban youth both money and career growth matters, while for those stepping outside for the first time money is the primary reason for choosing to relocate.
How do you perceive the future of hiring in remote areas – in terms of quantity, quality and ratio of local to other local to talent beyond boundaries?
Hiring from remote areas will definitely increase as we want more fresh and diverse talent. If the hiring is right, employees from remote locations are more stable and productive employees in the long run. The fact of the matter is that a right candidate for a right job will be hired irrespective of where he is coming from.
