Infosys has bagged an approximately $100 million multi-year outsourcing contract from Netherlands-based courier delivery service.

BANGALORE: Infosys has bagged an approximately $100 million (Rs 620 crore) multi-year outsourcing contract from Netherlands-based courier delivery service TNT Express, sources close to the development said. The country's second-largest IT company will provide application development and maintenance (ADM) services, an expansion of its existing scope of work for TNT Express.

TNT Express, which focuses on Europe and connecting Europe with the rest of the world, has set a target to achieve 220 million in savings by 2015 through consolidating services, optimizing infrastructure, increasing productivity and reducing indirect costs.

The express logistics provider is reshaping its portfolio, divesting its domestic operations in China and Brazil and reducing exposure to intercontinental fixed air capacity. It is focusing on more attractive segments like international and special services products, small and medium enterprise customers, higher weight parcels and palletized freight.

TNT Express is investing 200 million in infrastructure and IT till the end of 2015 to optimize and automate depots and hubs and in businesssupporting and customer IT, the company's website says. For instance, TNT Express is launching new online booking and payment tools to improve its customer interface technology.
TOI could not contact TNT for confirmation. An Infosys spokesperson said the company does not comment on client engagements.

Logistics companies like UPS, DHL and FedEx have had outsourcing engagements with Indian IT vendors for some time now. Wipro has serviced FedEx; Cognizant and Infosys have provided IT services to DHL.

"UPS, DHL and FedEx have over 3,000 FTEs (full time equivalent, which is roughly the same as full time employee) each in India through its outsourcing partners. Some of them compete with the US postal service and they have to focus on cost structures and on upgrading their application suites that have a shelf life of 8-10 years. So a large chunk of contracts are in the maintenance space," said Sudin Apte, CEO of IT advisory firm Offshore Insights
