Pharmaceutical industry.
How would you define thought leadership?
Thought leadership is about the ability to see what’s going/needs
to change, articulating what change will potentially look like for others to
form an opinion and then positioning oneself to enable, manage and leverage
that change. Thought leaders are the problem solvers in their chosen field of
expertise.
How would you differentiate thought leadership from opinion
leadership?
Thought leaders are the visionaries whom opinion leaders would
quickly emulate and who may sometimes use opinion leaders to convert a trickle
into a flood. Thought leaders help opinion leaders form an opinion.
How can HR position an organisation as a thought leader?
HR will need to provide organisational enablers such as robust
capability building and talent management processes. They also need to
encourage talent to network externally and work with the next generation to
convert change into reality.
How are thought leaders different from regular leaders?
Regular leaders manage the present, based on the past experiences;
while thought leaders foresee the future, based on their present experiences.
How important is the role of thought leaders in an organisation
given current uncertain economic scenario?
The evolution of an organisation to stay relevant and contemporary
is an important role that a thought leader plays irrespective of the economic
situation.
What are some of the core skills that a thought leader need to
possess?
Some of the core skills are the ability to foresee risks; be the
initiator of change and not the receiver; and the ability to articulate that
change.
How can HR nurture thought leaders in an organisation?
HRs can nurture thought leaders by encouraging leadership that
challenges the status quo and develops a risk-taking culture.
Future Outlook
Will 2014 be a good year for pharma sector, in terms of human
capital?
2014 will be a good year for pharma in human capital terms as
companies will continue to hire in this sector. Compensation will be higher
than other sectors because pharma would use the opportunity to consolidate. The
industry association/companies will be looking to build greater awareness of
career opportunities in this sector.
The budget allocated for managerial/leadership training will go
up, reflecting the focus on talent management/succession planning. The industry
will also begin to focus more on processes with emphasis on quality and safety
on the manufacturing side and proper dissemination of science on the commercial
side, rather than hardcore selling.
Top jobs in 2014
The war for talent in the Pharma sector will be to improve or get
better talent in the areas of Quality, EHS, Compliance and Medical.
Top recruitment and HR trends to be witnessed in 2014
Multinational companies will be spending a lot more time in
training people across the sector on ethical leadership and compliance in the
light of the recent law amendments in India/UK/USA, governing corruption and
bribery.
