Apple again seeks ban on 20 Samsung devices in US
Apple is again seeking to ban some of Samsung's products in the US that were found to have infringed on Apple's patents last year.
SYDNEY: Tech giant Apple is reportedly again seeking to ban some of rival Samsung's products in the US that were found to have infringed on Apple's patents last year.
Apple asked US District Judge Lucy Koh to bar sales of more than 20 Samsung smartphones and tablets, such as the Galaxy S 4G and Galaxy Tab 10.1 that were found infringing.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Koh had rejected Apple's bid for a sales ban on the infringing Samsung devices after the 2012 verdict, but a US federal appeals court on November 18 said that Apple could pursue an injunction targeting some of its rival's products.
The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington said that Apple could tailor its request to focus on infringement of patents covering smartphone features but can't block Samsung products for infringing patented designs.
The report said that last month, Apple won more than $290 million from Samsung in a damages trial stemming from the same case in which Apple is seeking its sales ban request.
Apple and Samsung have been embroiled in a global battle on patent infringements and the total damaged owned by Samsung now stand at $930 million.
