New Banking Licenses To Create Jobs For Freshers: Experts

New Banking Licenses To Create Jobs For Freshers: Experts

New Banking Licenses To Create Jobs For Freshers: Experts
In the wake of the new banking licenses being issued by the government, experts believe that the BFSI sector will generate abundant jobs as high as 20 lakhs over the next 5-10 years. According to TimesJobs.com RecruiteX data the year 2014 began with a rise in demand (6%) but experienced a slump in February and March 2014.
This is set to change, as the next couple of months will witness better opportunities for freshers and senior leadership positions in the BFSI sector. Recently, the RBI issued banking licenses issued to IDFC, an infrastructure finance firm, and Bandhan Financial Services, a micro-lender to the underprivileged. “The BFSI sector is all set to strengthen the system and poised to create great career opportunities in the near future,” says Srikanth Rengarajan, executive director and president operations, ManpowerGroup India.
The industry will witness a lot of fresher hiring, believe experts. Employment for freshers will receive a boost from the public sector banks as well. “A large number of the workforce will retire over the next 5-10 years, which will create opportunities for freshers. As a result, these new banks will be primarily looking at fresher hiring, including in rural areas,” says Rengarajan.
For the time being, however, they will focus on leadership hiring for putting processes in place in the new banks. “The initial focus will be on leadership hiring across consumer banking, corporate banking, transaction banking, global markets and support functions,” he adds.
Roles in demand
The setting up of new banks will open up a plethora of opportunities for people at all levels, some of these roles are:
  • Entry level officers and clerical roles in public sector will see the highest intake.
  • Candidates in client-facing and client-servicing roles will be in demand
  • Besides direct hiring, expansion in the banking sector will create job prospects for various support functions
  • Requirement of staff for branches, as well as for functions such as operations, IT, risk management, compliance
  • The new licenses will also give rise to a lot of backend jobs, including those in processing, outsourcing to third parties and the likes
According to Jobbuzz.com data, the popular job roles in the BFSI sector include retail banking, operations, branch banking, technology, credit, risk and treasury.

High Performers To Get 15% Hike, Avg Less Than 10%

High Performers To Get 15% Hike, Avg Less Than 10%

High Performers To Get 15% Hike, Avg Less Than 10%
If one analyses net income after considering the inflation rate in the past two years, salary hike is actually between 2-3 per cent
According to TimesJobs.com RecruiteX, overall, single-digit increments are expected in 2014; however, high performers can look forward to increments in the range of 15-20 per cent.
R P Yadav, chairman and managing director, Genius Consultants Ltd, explained that employees can be classified as high performers, average performers and poor performers. People who are in the bracket of average performers have been getting single digit increments and for the bracket of high performers the increment will be between 12-16 per cent. If one analyses net income after considering the inflation rate in the past two years, it is actually between 2-3 per cent.
“Unless there is revival of the economy, which is actually not expected in the year 2014-15, due to election and election results, I personally feel that the increment in the net salary will be low and increment in appraisal will be in single digit, between 8-9.5 per cent,” he said.
Income Vs Inflation
Andleeb Jain, group head-HR, Isolux Corsán, added that average hikes this year are expected to be in the late single digits or at best 10 per cent. This translates to a negative real hike, or, no real hike keeping the inflation in view. “But if we plot the hike versus profitability growth of the sector or companies, I personally feel it’s still an acceptable scenario for the employee,” he added.
A leading salary budget survey ranks India as first with the highest projected salary hike of 10.9 per cent in 2014. It is estimated that in 2014 there will be a salary increase of 0.4 per cent over 2013. But, this doesn’t really mean that the workforce in India is better off than its global counterparts. The high inflation rate has to be blamed for this.
 ‘Star’ Sectors
While average overall salary hikes will be in single digits, there are sectors that are offering competitive pay packages. TimesJobs.com RecruiteX indicates that Consumer Durables/FMCG and Healthcare/Pharmaceutical are the best pay masters for junior and middle level employees. At senior level, BFSI and Automobile sector emerged as the highest paying sectors. Petrochemicals/Oil & Gas sector is the best paying sector across all three levels.
1)     Overall, Petrochemicals/Oil & Gas sector is the best paying sector, the average salary offered is in the range of:
  • Junior level: Rs 13-14 lakhs/annum
  • Middle level: Rs 36-44 lakhs/annum
  • Top level: Rs 94-124 lakhs/annum
2)     Healthcare/Pharmaceuticals sector offers:
  • Junior level: Rs 8-14 lakhs/annum
  • Middle level: Rs 15-45 lakhs/annum
  • Top level: Rs 45 lakhs/annum onwards
3)     Consumer Durables/FMCG industry offers:
  • Junior level: Rs 9-11 lakhs/annum
  • Middle level: Rs 20-25 lakhs/annum
  • Top level: Rs 45-65 lakhs/annum
4)     BFSI industry also offers good salary package to senior level employees (Rs 35-58 lakhs/annum)

Drinking water in empty stomach in the morning can be immensely beneficial for the body

We tend to complicate things when it comes to taking care of our health. A few simple steps can go a long way in taking care of our health, and one easy way of ensuring it is by drinking sufficient water in empty stomach first thing in the morning. Not only does it clear your stomach, it goes a long way in reducing the risk of a number of diseases. Firstly, it purifies the colon and it improves the stomach's chances to absorb nutrients properly. A better digestive system automatically takes care of a lot of other things. It is also one of the secrets behind a glowing skin, as water removes the toxins from the blood. Drinking water also improves the creation of new blood cells as well as muscle cells, and helps you in losing weight.

Also, make sure not to eat anything for a while after you drink water in the morning. This water treatment therapy has no side effects and boosts your metabolism greatly. About four glasses of water (one litre) on an average daily would be great. If it feels too much in the beginning, you can start off slowly and then gradually increase the intake.

Sebi revokes restrictions on dollar-rupee contracts

Sebi revokes restrictions on dollar-rupee contracts

MUMBAI: With rupee stabilizing over the recent months, market regulator Sebi on Monday revoked certain restrictions it had imposed on dollar-rupee derivative trading in July last year.

On July 9, 2013, Sebi in consultation with RBI had doubled the initial margins and extreme loss margins for dollar-rupee contracts. These steps were taken in the backdrop of extreme volatility in rupee valuation against the US dollar, which had seen the Indian currency soar to near Rs 70 level against the greenback.

With normalcy coming back to the rupee-dollar trade and the Indian currency now trading near Rs 60 level, these restrictions are being eased now and the margin requirements are being halved from the current level to bring them back to their original levels. In a circular issued today, Sebi said it has decided to "restore the margins for dollar-rupee contracts to pre-July 8, 2013 rates".

The decision would be effective from April 15

RBI to issue Rs 10 bank notes with governor Rajan's signature

RBI to issue Rs 10 bank notes with governor Rajan's signature

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank of India will soon issue 10-rupee bank notes with the signature of governor Raghuram Rajan.

The notes of 10-rupee denomination in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 bearing the signature of governor Rajan will be issued shortly, the central bank said in a release today.

The notes will bear the rupee symbol on the obverse and reverse sides, with inset letter A in both numbering panels. The year of issue, 2014, will be printed on the reverse side of the notes, it added.

"The design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the Rs 10 bank notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 issued earlier," it said.

All bank notes of Rs 10 denomination issued in the past will continue to be legal tender, the RBI added.

Sun Pharma to acquire Ranbaxy in $4 billion deal

Sun Pharma to acquire Ranbaxy in $4 billion deal

Ranbaxy
The combination of Sun Pharma and Ranbaxy will be the fifth-largest specialty generics company in the world and the largest pharmaceutical company in India.

MUMBAI: Sun Pharma and Ranbaxy Laboratoriesannounced that they have entered into definitive agreements pursuant to which the former will acquire 100% of Ranbaxy in an all-stock transaction. The deal being termed as a "landmark transaction", has been estimated at $4 billion.

Under terms of the agreed deal, Ranbaxy shareholders will get 0.8 of a Sun Pharmaceutical share for each Ranbaxy share they own. The exchange ratio represents an implied value of Rs 457 for each Ranbaxy share, a premium of 18% to Ranbaxy's 30-day volume-weighted average share price and a premium of 24.3% to Ranbaxy's 60-day volume-weighted average share price, in each case, as of the close of business on April 4, 2014, said the statement.

The combination of Sun Pharma and Ranbaxy will be the fifth-largest specialty generics company in the world and the largest pharmaceutical company in India. The merged entity would create a new market leader in the immensely fragmented Rs 75,000 crore domestic pharma market, with the company commanding close 9.3% market share, according to AIOCD AWACS

Moto X successor to be called Moto X+1?

Moto X successor to be called Moto X+1?
The successor to Moto X, Motorola’s flagship smartphone is likely to be called Moto X+1.

EW DELHI: The successor to Moto X, Motorola's flagship smartphone is likely to be called Moto X+1.

The name sounds odd and it's difficult to say if it will be the final name of the phone or just a codename but Evleaks, the twitter account of a former blogger known for accurate smartphone related leaks, has posted the alleged logo which reveals the Moto X+1 name.

There is no information about the phone's specifications, pricing or availability. In February, Motorola had answered some user queries through its Twitter account. Responding to a question related to the next version of Moto X, the company had posted on Twitter that it will keep users posted and had hinted at a late summer release. We would not be surprised if the company releases the phone in August. The original Moto X had also got an August release.

It is difficult to predict how Motorola would improve the Moto X but we expect the phone to sport a slightly larger screen, more powerful hardware and a better camera. Evleaks also suggested that Motorola will offer leather covers for its new flagship smartphone similar to how it offers wood finish covers for Moto X.

The original Moto X is the only flagship smartphone by a major company that aims to lure customers with the promise of optimized user experience instead of beefed up hardware. The device has a 4.7-inch HD screen, 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 10MP camera and 2GB RAM. It is among the few smartphones in the country that run on Android 4.4 operating system and has a water-resistant coating. Buyers get free 50GB of Google Drive storage with Moto X. The phone launched in India last month, at a starting price of Rs 23,999

Qualcomm reveals details of Snapdragon 810 smartphone chip

Qualcomm reveals details of Snapdragon 810 smartphone chip
Due to appear in smartphones in 2015, the Snapdragon 810 is Qualcomm's latest bid to use its edge in wireless technology.

SAN FRANCISCO: Qualcomm gave details about a future high-end smartphone chip, including faster download speeds as well as 64-bit technology, which is quickly becoming standard.

Due to appear in smartphones in 2015, the Snapdragon 810 is Qualcomm's latest bid to use its edge in wireless technology to maintain its marketshare lead in semiconductors for mobile devices.

The 810 chip includes new, faster WiFi features as well as a 4G modem that Qualcomm says downloads data at twice the speed of chips made with its previous technology.

The chip also allows for video recording and playback at "4K" ultra-high resolution.

Following Apple's launch last year of its first iPhone made with a 64-bit processor, Qualcomm and other chipmakers have been rushing to roll out their own 64-bit technology, which reduces the gap between low-power mobile processors and punchier chips used in laptops, desktop PCs and servers.

Qualcomm is announcing its newest chip before the preceding chip in its high-end lineup, the 805, has even begun to appear in smartphones. The 805 is due to appear in smartphones around mid-2014.

Current smartphones, including Apple's, do not have enough memory to give 64-bit processors an advantage over more widely used 32-bit chips, but future phones will be made with enough memory to give the 64-bit processors a performance boost.

Before 64-bit features can be taken advantage of in phones, the software and operating systems they rely on will also have to be overhauled, a major undertaking for the industry.

Qualcomm in December announced its first 64-bit chip, part of its low-end lineup and aimed for use this year in inexpensive smartphones in the fast-growing Chinese market.

"We're basically saying it's difficult to call exactly when 64-bit operating systems and applications will become mainstream, but by integrating them now we're future-proofing all of our platforms going forward for the benefit of our (customers)," Executive Vice President Murthy Renduchintala told Reuters.

Qualcomm dominates the market for advanced 4G wireless technology and its Snapdragon chips are widely used in smartphones made by Samsung Electronics, Motorola, HTC and other manufacturers.

But the San Diego, California chipmaker faces a smartphone market that is beginning to grow less quickly.

Smartphone demand is shifting from the United States and other developed countries, where top-tier phones like the iPhone have become ubiquitous, to China, where consumers tend to buy less expensive devices with lower-end displays and other features.

After increasing 39% last year, smartphone shipments are expected to expand by 19% in 2014, and growth is expected to continue to slow, falling to just 6% in 2018, according to market research firm IDC.

Chief executive officer Steve Mollenkopf has told investors who are worried about a less vigorous smartphone market that Qualcomm's future chip innovations will drive fresh demand for smartphones

Who are you on Facebook now?

Who are you on Facebook now?

Who are you on Facebook now?
Facebook recently announced that it would offer users 50 different possibilities and permutations of gender identification.

On his driver's license and passport, at his doctor's office and insurance company, for online dating and social media, and on every application or document that requires checking a box for gender, 24-year-old Ryley Pogensky is a "male." But to his friends on Facebook, he is now a "trans man."

Facebook recently announced that it would offer users 50 different possibilities and permutations of gender identification. In the gender category under "Basic Information," the drop-down box now includes such "custom" choices as non-binary, intersex, neutrois, androgyne, agender, gender questioning, gender fluid, gender variant, genderqueer and neither.

The gender project was developed at a "hackathon" — an all-night coding fest at Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, California — with input from GLAAD, an advocacy group based in New York. "Over the years, we've seen a lot of requests for additional terms," said Allison Palmer, former vice president for campaigns and programs at GLAAD. "It speaks to how important Facebook is in people's lives. Having only two options was a big problem."

Some of the terms are not found in standard dictionaries. "Cisgender" is officially defined as someone who identifies with his or her societally recognized sex, but it has come to have a more LGBT-supportive subtext: I'm OK with what it says on my birth certificate, but I realize that's not true for everyone.

"Other people might see one of these terms and think it's a typo," said Sasha Kolodkin, a 19-year-old student at Purchase College in New York, who chose to be identified as a gender nonconforming transsexual female. "It's sort of a secret language that not everyone will understand. I was born male and feel that I should have been female. But use of the words 'male' and 'female' is very confining. When you have to choose between the two, the complexities of your identity are lost. It's like looking at a painting in black and white instead of color."

There have been a number of successful, albeit temporary, hacks into Facebook to allow gender-neutral pronouns, so that a profile reads "Wish them a happy birthday" rather than "him" or "her" — common usage in the LGBT community, even if grammatically incorrect.

"A lot of friends who are tech geeks did that," said Pogensky, who is a blogger and events planner. "I think Facebook caught onto it. This change made me so happy, hearing something as huge as Facebook admit, 'Sorry, we left these people out in the beginning.'"

So far, the new labels are only available in English to Facebook users in the United States; it will take a while to figure out the translation of "pangender" in Japanese or Finnish. "In a lot of languages, there isn't an easy way to express a human being without including gender," said Alex Schultz, vice president of growth at Facebook, who spearheaded the project. "But we're interested in giving people options to express who they really are, allowing them to be their authentic selves."

Facebook has not revealed how many users have chosen to partake of the new options. "It's not about the percentage of people who will use them," said Palmer, who worked closely with Facebook, "but those who do are some of the most vulnerable members of the community, and, like everyone else, they deserve to express themselves."

Younger Facebook users may be more comfortable with public declarations, but some older users more concerned with privacy are coming onboard — guardedly. "I made sure to read carefully through the description of the options before I did something that seemed like a big deal," said Christina Mazzalupo, 44, an artist in Brooklyn. "It's just Facebook, but it's everybody I know."

Mazzalupo identified as androgynous. "It was sort of titillating, but made sense," she said. "I've been out since I was 21. I don't want to be a boy, but I don't feel like a girl. I have feminine sensibilities, but have gotten more boyish in how I look, how I dress. My dad calls me combo-kid, and for my mother to tell me I look handsome was a big deal. 'Androgyne' felt like a final validation, and I'm quite old for that to be happening."

Aster Max, a 52-year-old graphic artist in Seattle, chose "two-spirit," a Native American term that conveys having both male and female aspects. "In many tribes, there's an honorable place for what we call gay people," he said. "Among the Lakota, it was almost mandatory to have a two-spirit person go on a war raid as a good-luck charm. When I saw that offering on Facebook, I went for it."

Max considers his choice a bit of digital defiance. "I came out of the womb gay," he said. "I was a ballet dancer for 22 years - it was part of my ID always. But I'm making a choice to stand out. The more of us who choose a different gender, the better it is for those who want wiggle room. I'm waving a flag in the face of others who might be more conservative. It's my own little Act Up."

‘Microsoft employee’ leaks Windows Phone 8.2 features
A Reddit user claiming to be a long-time Microsoft employee has leaked features of the Windows Phone 8.2 update, which is currently under development.
NEW DELHI: Microsoft has just made Windows Phone 8.1 official, but another major update seems to be around the corner.

A Reddit user claiming to be a long-time Microsoft employee has leaked features of the Windows Phone 8.2 update, which is currently under development. According to the Reddit thread, which has now been deleted, the alleged employee is part of Microsoft's core operating systems group and works on Windows Phone, Windows, Xbox One, Windows Server and "new stuff."

Among the new features that the WP8.2 update will bring to the table is support for video calling services other than Skype.

WP8.2 will have a feature that will allow close friends and family of a user (part of the Inner Circle) to send text messages even if the handset's Do Not Disturb mode is turned on. Important contacts will be able to get a call through in this mode if they call three times.

Users will be able to change the default messaging app once Windows Phone 8.2 arrives. Facebook, which is part of the Messaging hub at present, will be removed from the app as a default option. The anonymous Microsoft employee also revealed that Facebook is working on an app for Windows Phone.

Microsoft also has an "interesting plan" to bridge the gap between Google Search and Bing, but there were not many details about this. Xbox One will get background tasks and music in the next six months, the source said.

As per the thread, Windows Phone 8.2 update will be announced in the next 8-10 months. Microsoft will now bring new updates every 6-8 months, while major updates will be announced after every one or two years.

Apple's deep pocket: What $159 billion could do

Apple's deep pocket: What $159 billion could do
According to a report by Moody’s Investors Service, US companies outside the financial industry were sitting on a combined $1.64 trillion of cash by the end of 2013. And tech giants like Apple, Google and Microsoft had the most.

Big technology companies have a problem anyone would love to have: They are sitting on vast amounts of cash.

According to a report by Moody's Investors Service, US companies outside the financial industry were sitting on a combined $1.64 trillion of cash by the end of 2013. And tech giants like Apple, Google and Microsoft had the most.

Apple topped the list, with nearly $159 billion. A decade ago, before the iPhone came along, the company was holding about $5.5 billion. Laid out in dollar bills, Apple's current stockpile would cover around 630 square miles.

Apple seems happy to let its trove sit untouched, though the company has not said why.

John Maynard Keynes, the economist, argued that companies tend to hoard cash for three reasons: To perform day-to-day transactions, to protect themselves in the event business slows, and to prepare to make investments should opportunity arise.

Apple certainly isn't using its cash for acquisitions. Compared to its competitors, the company spends very little money buying technologies new or old.

Google has spent billions on video sites, robots, driverless-car technology and artificial intelligence software. Amazon has bought robot-makers, e-commerce services and hardware startups. And Facebook has spent more than $20 billion in just the last two months on a messaging platform and virtual reality technology.

Yet Apple has barely broken the skin over the last decade, buying AuthenTec, a fingerprint sensor company; Siri, the voice service; and Topsy, a data analytics company.

Apple has never even made a single acquisition more than $1 billion. Where are the robots, the driverless cars, the virtual reality goggles?

In an interview in February with The Wall Street Journal, Timothy D Cook, Apple's chief executive, said the company had looked at big companies but had no urge to buy for the sake of buying.

"The money is also not burning a hole in our pocket where we say let's make a list of 10 and pick the best one," Cook said. He said Apple was "not going to go out and buy something for the purposes of just being big."

But the money is burning a hole in the pockets of investors who want Apple to use some of its cash to pay dividends, buy back stock or both. Carl Icahn, the vocal billionaire investor, is leading the charge.

Rick Lane, an analyst with Moody's who wrote the report on the company's cash holdings, said Apple could be holding onto some of its cash for a rainy day. Apple once fell on "very difficult times," he said, "and had to rely on, in part, the kindness of others."

"Without having to rely on the capital markets, which can be mercurial, it's a kind of self-insurance to have that cash on hands for the times when things go bump in the night," he said.

So what could Apple buy with its miles of cash?

Compared to Google, Apple seems to be focused on the here and now rather than the far-off future. (Google is building autonomous robots and cars.)

Apple could leapfrog its competitors and go all in, picking up Mars. (Yes, the planet.) NASA scientists recently said a human mission to Mars with the goal of building a colony would cost about $160 billion. NASA even floated the idea that big corporations could sponsor the trip.

If going from iPads to interplanetary missions seems like a stretch, maybe Apple could explore transportation on Earth.

Last year Philip W Schiller, Apple's senior vice president for worldwide marketing, said that before the company built the iPhone, executives had discussed building a car.

Rather than start from scratch, Apple could take less than 20% of its cash and pick up Tesla for around $30 billion. Paint the cars white, slap on an Apple logo, dot an "i" before crossing the "t" — and you have an entirely new product category: iTesla.

Of course, Apple would immediately want to jump into the driverless car market — since that is clearly the future of the industry — so the company could buy a few artificial intelligence labs and pick up whichever robotics companies Google hasn't already.

Or Apple could stick with communications. There are very few companies Apple relies on more than the telecommunications giants. While Apple designs and builds its iPhones and iPads on its own, the company still needs Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile to connect those gadgets to music, video and the Internet.

Why not just bypass the telecom companies? T-Mobile, which boasts the fastest iternet service on the planet, is currently worth about $26 billion, about 16% of Apple's cash. Sprint is a little more expensive, with a market value of $37 billion. But Apple could pick up both and still have more than $90 billion left.

Microsoft can probably feel Apple's pain. In 2002, Microsoft was rich, sitting on $36 billion. While Bill Gates always believed that Microsoft should have enough cash on hand to operate for a year without making a penny, investors disagreed, calling for a dividend.

Microsoft tried to hold out, saying it wouldn't bow to investors' demands. Under pressure, the company finally relented, and it issued its first dividend.

We all know what happened to Microsoft in the decade that followed

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 specifications, features leaked
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will reportedly have 2K screen, handwriting recognition, 20.7MP camera, 64-bit processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB storage.

NEW DELHI: Samsung Galaxy S5 hasn't even hit retail stores yet, but rumours about Galaxy Note 4 have already started swirling online. Japanese website CMNO.com has released a list of features that will reportedly make their way to the Galaxy Note 4.

As per the report, Samsung will not use the fingerprint scanner in Galaxy Note 4. Instead users will be able to unlock their phones by simply writing on their screens. It remains unclear whether the manufacturer will retain the heart rate monitor that it introduced with Galaxy S5.

While its screen size remains unknown, Galaxy Note 4 is likely to have higher a higher resolution display. The report claims that the next-generation phablet will have 2K resolution (2560x1440p), instead of Full HD (1920x1080p). Samsung is also rumoured to be working on a Galaxy S5 variant with 2K screen resolution.

The Galaxy Note 4 is also expected to get a 20.7MP camera, a major jump from the 13MP camera of its predecessor; even the new Galaxy S5 has only a 16MP camera. This camera is likely to feature optical image stabilization, a feature missing from top-end Samsung phones. Just like Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S5, the next top Samsung phablet will be able to record 4K (movie hall quality) videos.

Apple's iPhone 5S is the only phone in the market with a 64-bit processor, and Samsung is looking to join its ranks with the Galaxy Note 4. The device will reportedly have a 64-bit processor, paired with 4GB RAM made on the 20nm process.

Samsung last year unveiled the world's first 4GB RAM for mobile devices, but has not used the same in any of its products as of now. 64-bit processors require at least 4GB RAM in order to make full use of their computing capabilities.

Galaxy Note 4 is expected to run on Android 4.5, which is likely to be unveiled at Google I/O in June this year. The phablet is also expected to have 128GB internal storage option, 3,600-3,800mAh battery, support for fast 4G and dual-band Wi-Fi networks. Just like Galaxy S5, the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be water- as well as dust-resistant.

The device will cost less than $800, according to the report. Though there is no word on Galaxy Note 4's launch date, it is likely that the model will be unveiled in august or September this year. Samsung may once again unveil the phablet at IFA 2014 tech expo in Berlin or host a separate event around the same time
