Reliance Communications names ex-Bharti Airtel executive Vinod Sawhny as CEO

Reliance Communications has roped in former Bharti Airtel executive Vinod Sawhny as chief executive in its third restructuring of senior management.

NEW DELHI: Anil Ambani-controlled Reliance Communications has roped in former Bharti Airtel executive Vinod Sawhny as chief executive in its third restructuring of senior management in four years aimed at spurring growth. 
Sawhny was the head of Bharti Airtel's phone-manufacturing division when he left that company in 2012, after spending a decade with the group. 
RCom said its CEO of wireless operations, Gurdeep Singh, will have an expanded role, taking overall charge of its consumer business arm comprising wireless, DTH and consumer broadband divisions. RCom had recently reshaped its enterprise business unit, Globalcom, where three offshore businesses were put under the leadership of Bill Barney, who was made the unit's CEO last month. 
RCom's newly set up management board will comprise Indian enterprise business head Puneet Garg, IT and services president Suresh Rangachar, chief financial officer Manikantan Iyer and human resources head Amit Das as well as Sawhny, Singh and Barney. Less than a fortnight ago, Bharti Airtel had announced the setting up of the Bharti Governance Board comprising the group's top executives.
