their IPL 6 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
HYDERABAD: Suresh Raina produced yet another brilliant knock to set up Chennai Super Kings' 77-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday night.
Though the southpaw missed out on a well-deserved century, his unbeaten 99 not only gave the two-time champions two points from the game but also put them back on track after the mauling they got in Mumbai. Raina spoke about the game and his form after the match. Excerpts:
What was your strategy when you went to bat?
I was thinking to play till the last ball. I wanted to go out and bat normally. (Michael) Hussey and (Murali) Vijay started off so well. They gave us a good platform from where we could launch out. When I went in, Hussey told me to play sensibly. He said there was no need to take any risks and hence I should not play any pre-meditated shots.
Are you disappointed about missing out on a century?
I am not disappointed. The most important thing was to win the game and I am happy that we did it. Getting so many runs in a winning cause is always a great feeling and it's no different today.
You have run into great form this season. What's the secret?
God has been really kind to me. We have a great franchise and a really wonderful support staff. The entire coaching staff and the others have been a great support to us. They understand the needs of each player. They have given us a platform and the freedom to play without too much pressure. With such a setting, it's no wonder that most of us have succeeded. I am grateful to the franchise for supporting us in such a big way.
What do you feel about the wicket here?
The surface in Hyderabad has always been on the slower side. Over the many years that I have played here, it has always remained the same. We knew that we always had a chance to defend if we got around 140-150 on the board. But the wicket that we played on today was a really good one for batting. The ball came on to the bat nicely.
