Be yourself Vishal Sikka, former boss tells Infosys chief
As Vishal Sikka takes to the stage on Friday to announce Infosys’ results for the first time as its CEO, his former boss had this advice for him - “Be Vishal Sikka.”

BANGALORE: As Vishal Sikka takes to the stage on Friday to announce Infosys' results for the first time as its CEO, his former boss had this advice for him - "Be Vishal Sikka."

Leo Apotheker, who was co-CEO of SAP, where Sikka was CTO, and then the CEO of Hewlett-Packard (HP), said, "I'm sure he will do whatever he thinks is the right thing to do for Infosys. The last thing he needs is a bunch of people who don't have the facts to give him advice."

Sikka is expected to announce major policy changes on Friday.

Apotheker had nothing but fulsome praise for Sikka's technology acumen. "I had the pleasure of working for him or he had the pleasure of working for me, that's a relative narration. You could ask him if he enjoyed it or not, but I enjoyed working with him," he said.

Apotheker, now the vice-chairman and independent lead director in Schneider Electric, was in Bangalore on Thursday to lead a panel discussion on `Smart Cities' hosted by Schneider.

Apotheker believes Sikka was brought into Infosys to augment revenues from products and IP. "Today, you can't be a successful IT company if you don't own IP. Trying to put more into a service company is a smart strategy," he said.

Talking about Indian IT, Apotheker said the industry had got global recognition for championing the global delivery model and not because of labour arbitrage. "People have a misconception about what made the Indian IT services companies successful. Many believe it was labour arbitrage, that's wrong. What made these companies successful was that they came up with another way of delivering IT services which was much smarter. The cost differential was the icing on the cake," he said.

The former HP boss also feels vindicated by his successor, Meg Whitman's recent decision to split HP into two -- one focused on software and services and the other on PCs and printing. "It's always a good feeling to know that you were right," he said.

Apotheker had proposed separating the PC business back in 2011, but that and some other decisions were met with an internal backlash, leading to his ouster just after 11 months on the job. "I was always convinced that it was the right thing to do. I have said it numerous times since and remained convinced that it was the right thing to do and obviously now they are doing it. I just hope that they will execute well and they will be successful. I am sorry to see 55,000 jobs being destroyed. May be if they would have done it sooner, it wouldn't have happened like that," he said.

10 tricks every Android user should know

Most Android phones are already pretty easy to use, but there are some easy steps you can take to make them even more enjoyable and efficient.

Since Android is an open platform, there's plenty of room for customization. Beyond personalizing your phone, there are a few easy practices that can keep your phone neat and organized with plenty of battery life to last all day.

Here are 10 tips and tricks every Android user should know.

1. Set up Google Now

October 08,2014
Set up Google Now
Think of Google Now as your personal assistant. Open the Google app, tap Get Google Now, and then fill in your preferences.

You can tell Google Now your favourite stocks, sports teams, and more to get personalized notifications. You can also tell Google Now your preferred mode of transportation for Google Maps.

2. Use launchers and lock screen replacements

October 08,2014
Use launchers and lock screen replacements
Sick of staring at that same weather widget every day? You can download apps in the Google Play store that actually let you change the interface of your Android phone. Check out some of our favourite Android launchers and lock screen replacements here.

3. Enable Power Savings mode

October 08,2014
Enable Power Savings mode
Navigate to the Settings menu and turn on the Power Savings mode to preserve battery life. Some phones come with a higher-level battery-saving mode, too.

Galaxy S5's Ultra Power Savings Mode, for example, allows you to send calls, texts, browse the internet and use a few stock apps, but that's about it.
Not all Android phones have a battery-saving mode, but many do.

4. Get an extra battery

October 08,2014
Get an extra battery
All phones die eventually, and you may not always be near an outlet to charge it. Since many Android phones come with removeable backs, you can replace the battery with a fresh one when you're on the go.

5. Sign into Google Chrome

October 08,2014
Sign into Google Chrome
If you sign in to your Google account in the Chrome browser on your phone, your bookmarks and preferences will automatically carry over.

6. Organize apps into folders

October 08,2014
Organize apps into folders
You can create folders to divide your apps into different categories. This reduces clutter and also makes it easier to find what you need fast. To create a folder, press and hold down on an app and drag it up to the "Create Folder" option on the upper-left-hand side.

On some phones you can also drag and drop an app on top of another to create a folder, just like you can in iOS.

7. Use a third-party keyboard

October 08,2014
Use a third-party keyboard
Sometimes it's easier to swipe than it is to type. You aren't restricted to Google's keyboard in Android — there are plenty of keyboard apps to choose from in the Google Play store. Swype, for instance, lets you type by swiping to each letter rather than typing.

8. Adjust bandwidth management in Chrome

October 08,2014
Adjust bandwidth management in Chrome
You can turn on the "Reduce Data Usage" option in Chrome, which removes unnecessary whitespace and translates images into a smaller format in order to cut down on how much data it uses while you browse.

9. Use Google Authenticator to keep data safe

October 08,2014
Use Google Authenticator to keep data safe
Google Authenticator provides two-step verification security for your Google account. So, when you log in, you'll need a code generated by the app in addition to your password. This ensures that strangers can't log in to your account.

For example, if you log into Gmail on a different computer, you would need to take out your phone, open the app, and then enter that code to access your account.

10. Change your default apps

October 08,2014
Change your default apps
Ever want to change the default web browser your phone uses when you click on a link? You can change this and other defaults by navigating to Settings, head over to All, and press Clear Defaults.

Hackers from India, Pakistan in full-blown online war

Hackers from India, Pakistan in full-blown online war

Hackers from India, Pakistan in full-blown online war
On Thursday, over a dozen Indian and Pakistani websites were defaced by hackers from either side of the fence.

NEW DELHI. Even as gunfire continues to be traded across the Indo-Pak border, a full-blown hacking and defacement war has erupted in cyberspace. On Thursday, over a dozen Indian and Pakistani websites were defaced by hackers from either side of the fence.

The website of the Press Club of India (PCI) in the capital was hacked and defaced, with the hackers' message on the website's home page claiming Pakistani origin.

A hacker group calling itself "Indian Hackers Online Squad" hacked and defaced the website of the Pakistan's main opposition party, Pakistan People's Party (PPP), www.ppp.org.pk on Wednesday, with one "Bl@k Dr@gon" claiming credit. On Thursday, the Pakistan railways website was hacked as well, the second time this year, with the same name appearing on the defaced page.

Responding to a Wednesday attack on Malayalam films actor Mohanlal's website, a group called "The Mallu soldiers" defaced the website of Pakistan's National University of Modern Languages. The websites of Quaid-e-Azam Public College in Gujranwala (http://qpc.edu.pk/), Pakistan Electric Power Company (Private) Limited (www.pepco.gov.pk) and National Manpower Bureau (www.nmb.com.pk) were also among the sites hacked by anonymous Indian hackers.

The "about me" page of singer Sonu Nigam's official website and teammodi.in were also defaced by a group claiming to be "Pakistan Cyber Attackers". Two Punjab news websites were also reported to have been hacked.

Cyber security consultant Rakshit Tandon says that he had been getting constant calls throughout Thursday to report these incidents. The hackers claimed to be from Pakistan and India. But Tandon feels it would be wiser to wait for the investigation to confirm their locations. "It is easy for someone to use a proxy server and claim to be coming from anywhere in the world," says Tandon, also advisor to the Gurgaon cyber cell.

Even as the hackers continued well into Thursday night, hashtags like #BuzdilPakistan have been trending in India on Twitter, while the Paksitan top trends feature tags such as #CowardModi, #freekashmirfromindia, #IndiaIsTerrorist, and #SayNoToBollywood.

Asking people to calm down, Indo-Pak friendship group Aaghaz-E-Dosti has asked netizens not to ignite the tension. "We must know that for both the countries, peace is of utmost importance and also our common need is being focused on development rather than spending huge money of taxes for arms and ammunition...We believe that any dispute can be resolved only by talk and mutual negotiation and agreements and not with violence," said a statement released by the group of youths from India and Pakistan.

A recent report from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) says the agency handled 71,780 cyber attacks and tracked 24216 Indian website defacements in 2013. "Most of the defacements were under '.in' domain, in which a total 15490 '.in' domain websites were defaced," says the report.

The PPP defacement responded to party chairman and Bhutto family scion Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's comments on taking back Kashmir from India. The website was defaced with memes deriding his comments on Kashmir. "To Citizens of Pakistan, Pakistan's Army, Pakistan Peoples Party and Specially Mr. Bilawal Bhutto- Zardari. Without any Violence Let Me tell you that Pakistan will never Get Kashmir. This is the Truth. You Have to Accept it :)" said the message on the page.

Press Club of India officials said the breach on the PCI website took place about four days ago. The PCI has filed a complaint with the cyber crime cell in Mehrauli. This is the second time in three years that their website - pressclubofindia.org has been hacked.

The message on the defaced home page of the press club website read, "Our Target is your Government's Websites ... We will Inshalaah with The help of Many Muslim Hackers Take You Off From The InterneT ! Your Credit Cards , Your Bank's Account , Your Servers ... Are In Danger ! We Never Forget what You Do (sic) against the Humanity ...In Jammu and Kashmir Millions Of People Were Dead..., Pakistan's Muslims Are Killed In The Force's Attacks... Indian Forces Destroyed Kashmir's Families ...Killed Innocent Childrens (sic)... But No One Cares !!!! You Want To Stop Us !! But Let me guess ! Can a Men (sic) Catch a Shadow ?!"

PCI officials said there was no risk of data being compromised as the website only featured public event details, daily menu updates and other such public information. "No data has been compromised and members have nothing to worry about. Only the home page has been defaced," PCI general secretary Nadeem Ahmad Kazmi told TOI.

The periodic online attacks have been going on for some years. Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune reported back in 2011, that Indian hackers had defaced the website of the Karachi Press Club. In 2010, a group of hackers identifying themselves as the "Indian Cyber Army" had reportedly defaced 36 Pakistani government websites. This, in turn had happened after the CBI website was defaced. In August this year, an Indian hacker group that calls itself "Black Dragon Indian Hacker Online Squad" hacked and defaced the official Pakistan railways website.

How to Make Money Without a Job

How to Make Money Without a Job

Money Pictures

The freelancer's dream -- working on a laptop at the beach. Of course, reality is not always that lucky!

Jobs are so 20th century. Welcome to the "gig" economy, where more than 20 million Americans are full-time "freelancers," "consultants," "independent contractors" and other code names for not having a "real" job [source: Greenhouse]. True, the Great Recession forced a lot of workers into the freelance ranks, but more than half of "solopreneurs" actively choose the jobless lifestyle [source: Florida]. No time clocks, no cubicles, and best of all, no bosses.
But how much money can you make without a traditional job? That depends on your skills, experience and flair for self-promotion. There are wildly popular bloggers who pull in six figures a month, but the general trend is that freelance workers earn slightly less than their cubicle-bound colleagues – about $15.60 per hour versus $20 per hour [source: Florida].
Of the more than 200,000 members of the Freelancers Union — one of America's fastest-growing labor organizations — 58 percent earn less than $50,000 a year and 29 percent earn less than $25,000 [source: Greenhouse].
Even if you won't get rich as an independent worker, there are plenty of other benefits to going jobless: You can better adapt your work schedule to family life. You can tinker with many different projects instead of doing the same thing day after day. And, best of all, you call the shots.
But what if the freelance life is still too confining? What if you want to make money without working at all? Is it possible to keep food on the table and a roof over your head without doing the barest minimum of work? It sounds too good to be true, but let's explore the options, starting with the simplest of economic transactions: selling stuff.

What if I touched dry ice?

What if I touched dry ice?

While dry ice looks like it would be cold, it's extremely dangerous to the touch and can cause severe burns.

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide. It has the very nice feature of sublimation -- as it melts, it turns directly into carbon dioxide gas rather than a liquid.
If you ever have to handle dry ice, you want to be sure to wear heavy gloves, because a block of dry ice has a surface temperature of -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit (-78.5 degrees C). The super-cold surface temperature can easily damage your skin if you touch it directly.
It's actually a lot like if you were to touch the handle of a hot pot or pan without an oven mitt. If you did this for less than a second -- so that you simply felt the heat and quickly pulled your hand away -- then at most your skin would be a little red. However, if you were to grab a hold of the handle tightly for a couple of seconds or more, chances are you would get a pretty nasty burn. The heat kills the skin cells.
It's the same with dry ice. Dry ice actually freezes your skin cells. The resulting injury is very similar to a burn and should be treated with the same medical attention. For the same reason you never want to taste or swallow dry ice. This would be like drinking something that was scalding hot and you would risk damaging your mouth, throat and part of your esophagus.

Ex-Googler and a senior tech professional launch a marketplace for interior designers

Ex-Googler and a senior tech professional launch a marketplace for interior designers

When Vishwas Goel and Abhishek Agarwal came back from the US in 2011, they were shocked at the quality of services in India. The duo tried hiring carpenters, electricians, plumbers to get things fixed in their rented house but the service was extremely unreliable. Later in 2013, the duo started building their own house in Bangalore and began exploring interior designers.
Intruo
Along the way, they found that there was really no good way for someone to discover a good interior designer or carpenter.
Since then, the duo has interviewed close to 200 homeowners and discovered that close to 80% households are unhappy with their interior expert. “There is no place where one can read reviews about any of the home interior experts. Similarly, there is nobody who can provide a guaranteed satisfactory service for a user. As a homeowner, I was willing to spend a lot of money for doing interiors of my home but I am still unsatisfied with the result,” says Vishwas.
Sensing this pain point of homeowners, Vishwas dived into the entrepreneurial pool with Intruo to improve the quality of services in this sector in India. Intruo is a research and reviews platform for all your home interior needs. “We are the best way to hire an interior designer, carpenter, painter and/or architect for your home interior needs,” adds Vishwas.
Prior to Intruo, Vishwas worked with search giant Google for more than seven years along with a stint at Walmart Labs, while Abhishek was an engineering manager at a startup in the US.
Collecting feedback was a tough task
Initially, the duo visited homeowners after seeking an appointment with them and personally collected their feedback about the interior experts they worked with. “The review is as real as it gets. We ask them to state both the good and bad experiences of working with their interior designers. This is great feedback for a new homeowner who is looking to do business with the same designer. Collecting reviews from homeowners has been hard but overall rewarding,” points out Vishwas.
The startup is sincerely trying to solve a consumer’s pain points by collecting and posting verified reviews about interior professionals. “We are unbiased in our approach and are working extremely hard to get this data,” says Vishwas.
Intruo offers ‘satisfaction guaranteed program’ which works by leveraging its relationships with the designers and carpenters and making sure that it delivers a great experience for users.
Traction and revenue model
Being just a month-old company, it reports a decent traction from both the consumer and designer fronts. “Designers are approaching us as well. We are currently working on a few partnerships too,” adds Vishwas.
Revenue model still needs to evolve for Intruo. “We are not sure how we will make money from this yet in the long term. We will continue to experiment with a few monetization models and will finalize one that works. We are largely focused on solving the user pain points currently,” adds Vishwas.
Plans for scaling up and road ahead
“Intruo is a marketplace model which scales extremely well generally. We are looking to expand into areas beyond Bangalore in the next three to six months,” says Vishwas. In the longer run, the company is looking at being a one-stop shop for all home interior needs.

Journey of a Startup – Serai: Building, sustaining a marketplace

Journey of a Startup – Serai: Building, sustaining a marketplace

In this series, we cover the journey of an entrepreneur from an idea to reality and the framework in which decisions are made. Adit Parekh of Blume Ventures, an angel fund, shares the story of Serai, an app which integrates various social platforms to help create a travel journal. In his first instalment, he talked about how the idea was conceptualized.
In this final piece, he delves deeper into sustaining the marketplace through the use of both the mobile and desktop by allowing a user to use the application for both his social and personal use.
serai
One of the decisions we had to make was on the level of application features we should provide based on the audience we were catering to. Both the professional user (photographers) and the average traveller should be able to use the application seamlessly.
serai
Thus we provided ‘wow’ features that one can delve into if one is a devil for details. The application allows for users to decide the level of detail in creating & recording their trips – the web app was feature rich, while the mobile app was very light.
As people could use the app for a variety of occasions –weddings, nature photography, long trips with friends or just a simple birthday party – we wanted to ensure that the app does not limit the use case.
Customer Acquisition:
serai
With the Cost per loyal user for iOS being around $1.86, just relying on the app marketplace would be a disaster.  Seeding the community with archived trips and then allowing these users to use the app (when in beta) to create live trips was one way to increase the app downloads.
Innovative use of travel forums, conferences and contests is what the company plans to do something like 500px. Referrals will be a huge hook for increasing the organic downloads.
There is a good article by everpix on their acquisition cost reduction strategy
serai
Keeping the user engaged is quite daunting in the age of instant gratification, and we had some thoughts around ensuring a high NPS (net promoter score).
Having a mix of notifications, album collaboration, contextual sharing and depth for access to the atomic unit was essential in both the mobile and web app.
Simple things like smart / automatic tagging with an exhaustive ontology of keywords would allow for search based on subject, time and region. This would help in increasing the feedback mechanism of likes, views, comments and followers.
Interesting categories and Listing Priority by the 500px is provided below:
Views, likes and favorites all contribute to a photo’s rating or ‘Pulse,” a rating system based on time and popularity.
A pulse starts at 0 and can reach a maximum of 100.  A photo gets 27 pulse points for its first like or favor.  Each additional like or favor increases the pulse less and less.  Once a photo gets in the 90s each additional vote or favor may only be worth 0.1 pulse points or less!  A photo is considered “Upcoming” if it receives a pulse of about 75 and “Popular” once it reaches about 80.
  1. Upcoming and fresh is time based
  2. Popular is points based
  3. Should have Curators Choice
Metrics to Track:
The end outcome is to ensure that the key metrics that the company tracks are growing.
serai
Some common and some specific metrics that the company plans to track with a few goals in mind are:
  • Number of collaborative journals will be our yardstick to decide how successful the application is. The idea is to make the application a one stop shop for photo organization, archiving and thus sharing.
The other metrics that we plan to track are:
  • Number of users with an ideal seed (before the app) of 1K users.
  • Number of trips per user based on usage was around 3 in the last 3 months, thus assuming one per month.
  • Number of pictures per trip, based on usage we see around 100, which we believe will be trimmed down, since users will pick and choose what they want to showcase.
The sharing / engagement metric is the number of people viewing the trip. Public sharing, assumption is around 100 per trip while private sharing the assumption is around 15.
serai
Humans are social by nature and with the digital revolution making us more highly connected but lonelier as people, we need the app to be positioned such that people can share and relish their cherished moments.
Referrals will only be successful if the user gets value from the receiver and visa versa. There is a good article by Airbnb, where new users were enticed by following features: Wish List, Referral, Neighborhoods, References, Blog and Listing Pages, Their referral techniques increased their guest bookings by 13%, Hosts booking by 145%, Referral sent by 264% which increased their referral as users and guest by 500%.
Serai has some interesting genuine hooks that would make people want to get their first degree of acquaintances to collaborate while still remain connected with their second degree of acquaintances by sharing.
For instance, there is an option where users can create a wish list of places to visit along with a list of places that have already been visited & then invite people for those trips. Users can also follow a prolific user’s travelogues. We are also planning to allow people who are in a particular city to comment on somebody’s travel to that city.
Some interesting thoughts on contextually related recommendations based on phone book /FB & Contact List along with showing the value of the share (either in $$ or Credit).
The cyclic conversion funnel is something that we plan to track on a continual basis:
Metrics: Based on Good/Better & Best

Would like to thank the team at Serai – @rohitmuppidi, @vipulshaily, @nitinhayaran

These toys interact with your smartphone to engage your kids

These toys interact with your smartphone to engage your kids

Toys aren’t just for fun anymore!
These days’ toys aren’t just Barbie dolls and Hot Wheel cars; they have become a new source of learning aids for kids. Have you seen the latest craze around ‘Lego blocks’?
If you step into any of the toy stores in the country, you will surely be baffled with the endless rows of toys, an enormous product range and numerous brands, all under the same roof. This is evident from the huge demand by the target group that is creating a great momentum and expected growth for the sector in the near future.
Spending on toys has increased by many folds by double income families, and it’s a global trend now to buy toys that have a learning element in them.
When I was in Israel a few weeks ago for the DLD Conference, I was happy to meet this amazing team from ChatPetz that is working on tech toys for kids. ChatPetz is a very loveable interactive toy that responds to ultrasonic beeps that can be triggered by almost any device, including TVs, computers, phones and tablets. ChatPetz can be used alongside a mobile app creating an engaging and incredibly fun experience in which ChatPetz directly responds to the content of the app. ChatPetz are furry and huggable high tech toys that interact with all manners of technology in their surroundings.
ChatPetz2
The husband-wife duo of IIan and Michal Laor have an earlier experience of building a toy company, JoJo, having sold over 200 million units worldwide. They have recorded close to USD $60 million in sales with their previous toy venture. This experience would come in handy while scaling ChatPetz globally with a good pace.
ChatPetz can also communicate with each other and hold conversations or have sing-a-longs each in their own voice and personality. They are part of a new generation of ultra high-tech toys that leverage the amazing capabilities of modern connected devices such as smartphones. The ChatPetz are amazingly easy to use. They are designed to come to life straight out of the box and include a USB cable to connect to your computer to quickly add new behaviors from the online database.
The team has now unveiled a new Indiegogo campaign to develop an online platform to create content for the toys. The toy provides a never-ending experience of fun, magic, and education for children and the young at heart; and thanks to an easy-to-use online platform, anyone will be able to create personalized content that their ChatPetz can interact with.

Chatpets

While the ChatPetz can respond to any content, the company is focusing on educational material that will transform learning into an interactive experience of play. In addition, they can respond to almost any form of media; from a TV commercial to a YouTube video, creating practically limitless possibilities of fun and interactivity.
In order to ensure a vast world of content, ChatPetz is developing an online platform that will allow individual owners to create content for their own ChatPetz. The platform is designed to be accessible by anyone, using simple commands in place of complex codes or scripts. This means the platform will be accessible to parents, teachers, or anyone else looking to provide a rich and fun experience. The content will be accessible in an App Store environment, and all content will be checked and moderated ensuring it is completely safe and appropriate for children.
Creating good engaging content endlessly is a big problem for content creators globally. This is one of the prime reasons why the ChatPetz team is crowdsourcing content from their users. It’s a good initiative to turn regular owners into content creators and have a network to engage other users on the platform.
The ChatPetz team believes that their toys will help children have fun and learn at the same time, as well as involve parents in this cheerful process too.

With PE, VC and Government backers behind it, MediAngels wants to build an online hospital

With PE, VC and Government backers behind it, MediAngels wants to build an online hospital

MediAngels
Dr Debraj Shome and Dr. Arbinder Singal are specialist doctors and good friends. Back in 2009, Shome’s father had a critical heart condition and most doctors didn’t give him more than 6 months. But via his network, Shome was able to get opinions from the best of doctors globally and the medication enabled his father to survive for more than 3 years. This incident made him and Singal think about the problem that exists in the industry and thought of starting a platform that would allow anyone to take second opinions from the best of doctors.  Thus was sown the first seed for MediAngels.
Funding of a paper plan
Debraj Shome

Putting structure to the idea, the duo started talking about the venture in their network. “Nobody thought Amazon would be bigger than Walmart back in the 90′s. We realized this potential for healthcare and ventured ahead with e-healthcare,” says Shome. about the model. They wanted to bring a hospital online and found the initial backer in HDFC’s PE arm. The company raised a seed round of INR 2.5 crores and started building on that paper plan. The founding team’s domain expertise and their vision is what brought in this initial investor confidence.
The supply side in terms of the platform was never going to be a problem with the network of the core team. MediAngels has over 300 specialists from 15 countries covering over 93 specialities. The idea is to give access to these high quality doctors to everyone. Shome says, “India needs more doctors, equitably distributed all over the country. Things have not changed much from the time I completed my MBBS. Technology as a mechanism to make doctors more easily accessible and available all over the country is important.”
And MediAngles is more than a second opinion website- they’re involved in the complete chain and are capable of letting a user do everything from booking a bloodtest, getting the results home delivered, consulting with the doctor online and then getting the medicines at the doorstep again.
The journey
MediAngels is a 15 member team at the moment and started out with promoting the portal via the various digital channels. The reception was there but they soon started running into challenges:
  • Educating the user is one of the biggest problem. Similar to early days of eCommerce, MediAngels has challenges with respect to building confidence in a user that the portal is legitimate and they can trust a doctor without actually meeting him or her for real.
  • Getting funding was another challenge after the initial positive indication. The company saw some dark days before rising up again.
MediAngels has facilitated 14,000 transaction till date and was also able to raise two follow up rounds to increase their runway and come back rejuvenated. MediAngels is currently working on a complete overhaul of the web portal and is strengthening its technical team.
Most recently, the firm raised INR 6 crores from Ventureast Tenet fund before which it had raised a round from the Technology Development Board. “We were selected to be the most innovative startup at Intel DST Technology Innovation Challenge 2012 where over 7000 companies participated,” says Shome.
MediAngles doesn’t rank very high on traffic (Alexa puts them at an India rank of 60,000) and they also have competition from other players. But Shome is confident about picking up momentum and getting on the growth front quickly. Apart from the B2C angle, MediAngels is also working with health insurance companies and hospitals to offer them services so that operations and surgeries are not carried out when not necessary.  The company is at a crucial juncture and we’ll have an eye out on their progress.
