7 tips to succeed as a fashion designer

7 tips to succeed as a fashion designer

Student-Designer-of-Fashion-Design-Schools-CaliforniaThere are lot of opportunities for fashion designers in export houses, garment store chains, textile mills, leather companies, boutiques, jewellery houses and media houses
Currently, the Indian Fashion Industry is growing at a rate of 10 per cent per annum. Compared to the global market, the Indian Fashion market is growing at a slower pace but it stands at approximately $460 million.
According to TimesJobs.com maximum jobs in this industry are available for fashion designers. The profession accounts for nearly 25 per cent of the total jobs in the sector. Opportunities for fashion design graduates are driven by the huge and growing demand for designer wear and the rising demand for exports. While most fashion designer choose to be self employed, for the rest there are immense opportunities in the export houses, garment store chains, textile mills, leather companies, boutiques, jewellery houses and media houses.
Vikrant Makkar, a Delhi-based fashion designer believes that a sense of aesthetics and a keen eye on what’s trending is important to ensure a successful career as a fashion designer. There are some more things that aspiring designers need to keep in mind, he adds:
Think different: Think out-of-the-box, be fearless in trying new things because creating something original takes a lot of work
Confidence: Have confidence in your ability and try to deliver something different from what’s already out there
Networking: Build networks because this is how you can reach maximum people and showcase your ideas. It will help if you have a well designed and organised portfolio
Be persistent: Keep at it. Even if you don’t get to where you want to be immediately (working for a particular design house or brand) continue doing good work, take up new challenges and diversify your portfolio.
Being cool: For creative people work doesn’t happen in 9 to 5 shifts. For them 24×7 is the work culture. Sometimes that could be physically and mentally taxing but one should learn to stay cool and calm.
Fearless: There are chances that even after you have put in all your hard work you might fail. But, don’t get disheartened, understand your drawbacks and work on them.
The scope for fashion designing jobs in India is immense as the Indian Fashion industry is gaining foothold globally. Rising fashion consciousness among people across big and small cities is a major driver for the fashion industry. According to Makkar, for a fresher the salary bracket starts from 2.5 to 5 lakh per annum which keeps increasing as per the experience. The industry is seeking talent across a wide range of functions including, fashion designers, textile designers, models, retailers, buyers and merchandisers, to provide end-to-end solutions to their clients.

'Love' hormone to heat up your sex life!

Forget Viagra. High levels of 'Love' hormone oxytocin can ramp up your sex life like never before - by making orgasm more intense!

Those who took oxytocin before sex - especially men - reported slightly more intense orgasms as well as greater levels of contentment after sex, a fascinating research reveals.

"Our study demonstrates that oxytocin may alter specific aspects of sexual experience and partner interactions in healthy couples," said researchers from Hannover Medical School in Germany.

Previous studies have shown that oxytocin plays a role in relationship bonding.

But few studies have examined whether higher levels of the hormone affect sexual behaviour.

In the research, 29 healthy couples either took oxytocin nasal spray or a placebo spray before having sex in their home.

After sex, they jot down their experiences about their sexual experience as well as their feelings toward their partner in a survey form.

While oxytocin had no effect on sex drive or arousal for either men or women, it resulted in a more intense orgasm, especially men.

Men who took oxytocin said they felt more sexually satisfied after sex, the study noted.

Some women also reported that they were better able to share their sexual desires with their partners during sex.

According to the study, more research is required to see whether the hormone may help those with low sexual desire or erectile dysfunction.

The study was published in the journal Hormones and Behaviour.

Don't go for a crash diet, there are smart options to stay in shape.

For all those of you who thought opting for a celeb diet was a bad idea, hold that thought. Some celeb diet fads are actually pretty easy to emulate and follow and you don't need to punish yourself either. The guilt binge is not required because most of these diets allow you the luxury to eat smart and eat right.

22-day Vegan challenge: Going vegan is nothing unusual in these days and time, but doing it in 22 days is no mean feat. Celebs like Jay Z and Beyonce started off this trend in December 2013 and it's quite a rage in 2014. One sure shot way of cutting the extra flab. All-vegan dishes like macaroni, mushrooms and grilled corn on the cob are very healthy.

Flexitarian diet: Essentially a vegetarian diet, but you can allow yourself a meaty dish once ina while. This way you can enjoy the benefits of being a vegetarian and indulge yourself on special occasions without feeling guilty. An average flexitarian weighs 15% less than someone who's a regular non-vegetarian.

Juice detox diet: This is an extremely doable diet and most celebs vouch for it. Fresh fruits, fruit juice, smoothies made at home, salad, lean meat, organic and low fat food are just right for 'clean eating'. Although, this diet, also labeled as the starvation diet has come under fire, but if followed sensibly can help you drastically lose weight.

Ketogenic diet: A low carb high fat diet, this is stage one of Atkins diet. You have to avoid carbohydrates and eat lots of fatty food (that will cause the body to burn fats for energy).

The right foods for healthy hair

Trichologist Dr Apoorva Shah from Richfeel, tells us how to take care of hair by eating the right food.

After all hair is all about what you eat therefore having a well-balanced diet is of crucial importance as far as the health of the hair is concerned. It is generally observed that hair problems are more commonly seen with individuals who follow an erratic diet.

Following a diet which is rich with proteins, minerals and vitamins definitely adds up to the health of the hair. Hair is in fact one of the parameters of body's health. So if you have got unhealthy hair it is just not about treating it externally but it has to be treated from within by finding out the exact causative factor causing the hair problem.

This could be the reason why any form of deficiencies in the nutrients or any hormonal imbalance directly affects the hair. In this article we will discuss about the right kind of diet that one should follow to keep their hair healthy.

One thing that you should keep in mind is that your diet should be rich of proteins as well as the minerals and therefore your diet should definitely consist of all these things...

Milk and milk products

You should make sure to have at least one glass of milk daily. Along with this you should also have at least one of the milk products daily which include paneer, cheese, curds etc...

Soya

Having soya proteins in the form of milk, flour, roasted form is also really good.

Veggies

Have your share of veggies and fruits daily which should include pear, tomato, papaya, green leafy vegetables.

Green tea

Green tea is a good anti-oxidant and therefore one should have it to get rid of all the toxins in the body. Generally one should have round about 1 to 2 glasses per day and if you are on a weight loss regime then you can have 3 to 4 glasses per day.

Avoid sugar

Avoid having foodstuffs which are high on sugar content as well as fat content. Avoid having canned food items, processed food items and refined food items.

Mineral-rich food

As already mentioned above you should have food which are a rich source of minerals especially the iron and the calcium.

Water

Make sure to have at least 12 to 14 glasses of water daily and if you cannot consume water then make sure to at least have coconut water daily as it is a rich source of minerals.

If you follow a healthy diet on a regular basis not only your hair but even your body will stay at its best health so make sure to follow the above diet chart to have beautiful hair forever

Worst breakfast options to start your day

Worst breakfast options to start your day

Worst breakfast options to start your day
Worst breakfast options to start your day (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal for us. Eating a healthy breakfast every morning can reduce the risk for diseases such as cancer and diabetes. But do you know that some of the a.m. choices that we make is completely wrong. Here go the foods to avoid for breakfast.

Sugary cereals and bakery items
Some cereals are full of carbs and sugar. When you eat them, your blood sugar rapidly spikes and then comes down. It is not right to let your energy crash at the beginning of the day and hence it is best to avoid such cereals and bakery items. Instead, choose cereals with higher fiber and protein. Add flaxseed or walnuts for more of fiber and protein.

Packaged pancakes, donuts..
Packaged pancakes, donuts are sugar-coated or honey-coated and will only satisfy your sweet tooth. Do yourself and your waistline a favor and opt for a whole wheat toast with lite butter.

Store-bought granola
Most store-bought boxes of granola that might appear to be a health mixture of honey, sugar, oats and dried fruit actually contains lot of fat and calories. Many boxed granolas also contain lot of hidden sugar, unless you're reading labels and consciously buying an organic or natural variety made with simple sugars. Otherwise, you're basically eating dessert for breakfast.

Take-away sandwich
It may have the makings of a balanced breakfast—with egg, meat, cheese, and toast—but when you really break down that breakfast sandwich you're getting a greasy fried egg, processed ham or bacon and full fat cheese. Instead, make one at home using a poached egg and low fat cheese.

Smoothies
Smoothies are full of refined sugar. Most store-bought varieties contain full fat milk, or worse, cream, so it's really more of a dessert shake than a breakfast beverage. Instead, blend a healthy version at home using yogurt, almond or skim milk and fresh fruits and nuts

Fat-burning exercises for a very flat tummy

Fat-burning exercises for a very flat tummy

Fat-burning exercises for a very flat tummy
Get that flat belly (Thinkstock photos/Getty Images)

If you thought only crunches can give you washboard abs, think again. Here are some fat-burning exercises that are even better.

Losing fat on the belly is the hardest, they say. And when you want to strengthen your core and lose the flab, most probably what comes to mind are crunches and sit-ups. But recent research has found that exercises that are meant for the whole body can actually workout the core muscles better than the designated exercises for your abs.

Strengthening your core muscles is important — because a fat belly can lead to many lifestyle diseases, while a flat one not only takes care of all that, but invariably, makes look you attractive too. These exercises are a different take on familiar ones. Each of these moves stimulates and tightens the core muscles while burning calories.

Dumb-bells

Take an exercise mat and sit on it. Now stretch your feet out in front of you. Keep them around three feet apart. Take a pair of dumbbells in your hands and hold them near your shoulders. Keep your back straight. Contract your stomach muscles and push your arms straight up. Return to the starting position and repeat ten to 15 times.

Cheers for the chair

Take a chair and sit on it while keeping your spine straight. Hold the edge of the seat. Now engage your core and use the stomach muscles to bring your toes (pointing to the floor) two to four inches off the floor. Hold for at least three to five seconds then lower your feet down. Repeat for a few minutes.

Try this out

Begin this one by standing with your feet apart — a little more than hip-width apart. Take a dumb-bell and hold it at chest level with both hands. Now, while you bend your knees, lower yourself. Go as far as you can — your elbows should be inside your knees. All the while, work your abdominal muscles, contract them, and use that strength to lower your butt. Keep repeating these squats at least 10-1 5 times.

Lunge!

This is a lunge with a slight variation. Begin by standing with your feet together. Lunge back with your right leg as you bend your knees at right angles. Now reach right hand to left foot. Then go back to standing position. Now, lunge the right leg back and do the exercise again. After ten repetitions, switch sides.

Push-ups

This one is a variation of push-ups. Go to the beginning position (see the picture below). Now slowly lift your right arm and touch your left shoulder with your right hand. Then go back to touching the floor. Now, do the same with your other arm — left arm and right shoulder and back on the floor. Then, touch your left hand to your right thigh, and go back to the main position. Then touch your left thigh with your right arm. Repeat all four touches at least five to eight times each.

Squat for strength

Begin your squat, arms akimbo, and get both your knees bent at 90 degrees. Generally squats are considered to be an important exercise for developing core strength while working the legs and buttocks. Now, engage your core muscles to push your body up to the starting position. The thrust you need to raise your body up will work to burn your stomach fat. Do this at least eight to 10 times for each leg

Jalebi among world's most fattening foods

Jalebi among world's most fattening foods
Indian sweet jalebi among world's most fattening foods (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

Jalebi is one of the favourite sweets of Indians, but it has featured on an American news website's list of fattening food items across the globe.

Huffingtonpost.com has come out with the following list of unhealthy dishes in the world:

Jalebi, India: Jalebi is a deep-fried dough that is soaked in a sugary syrup. This plain fried dough is unhealthy on its own.

Calzone, Italy: A traditional calzone uses the same amount of dough as an entire pizza-which serves four people. The Campania region of Italy gave birth to this version of pizza that is even unhealthier than the original. In a calzone, tomatoes, mozzarella and other traditional pizza toppings are stuffed into an easy-to-eat dough pocket and then served.

Acaraje, Brazil: A mere tablespoon of palm oil contains seven grams of saturated fat that makes the food taste great but is bad for health. Brazil's acaraje is a black-eyed peas formed into a ball, deep-fried in palm oil, and then stuffed with spicy pastes made from dried shrimp, ground cashews and more palm oil.

Churros, Spain: A popular way for locals here to start the day is with a meal of churros. These are fried-dough pastries which are dipped in sugar and cinnamon and then dipped in a thick hot-chocolate drink.

Khachapuri, Georgia: It's a bread bowl that is stuffed with melted cheese and topped with an egg and a large pad of butter.

Nutella crepes, France: Two tablespoons of sweet chocolaty Nutella spread has 200 calories (110 of which are from fat). Many street carts and restaurants there fry up batter in butter and make thin pancake-like pockets which deliver Nutella. The crepes are usually topped with powdered sugar and sometimes even whipped cream.

Deep-fried Mars bars, Scotland: A Mars bar which is deep-fried is a melted chocolate bar. The Mars candy company feels that the deep-fried dessert is not in line with the company's goal of promoting a 'healthy and active' lifestyle.

Ramen, Japan: Ramen has exploded in popularity over the last few years. It is a traditional Japanese soup dish consisting of noodles in broth, topped with a variety of meats and vegetables. Soup is basically a health food but the broth is made with beef, lard and oil that really packs a fat punch even if the noodles aren't fried

Bathe in morning sunlight to lose weight

Take morning sunlight not just to spruce up your vitamin D levels but manage weight too, research reveals.

People who had most of their daily exposure to even moderately bright light in the morning had a significantly lower body mass index (BMI) than those who had most of their light exposure later in the day, the study has found.

The timing, intensity and duration of your light exposure during the day is linked to your weight.

"The earlier this light exposure occurred during the day, the lower individuals' body mass index," said Kathryn Reid, a research associate professor of neurology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine.

The later the hour of moderately bright light exposure, the higher a person's BMI, he added.

The influence of morning light exposure on body weight was independent of an individual's physical activity level, caloric intake, sleep timing, age or season.

It accounted for about 20 percent of a person's BMI.

"Light is the most potent agent to synchronise your internal body clock that regulates circadian rhythms, which, in turn, also regulate energy balance," senior author Phyllis C. Zee explained.

The message is that you should get more bright light between 8 a.m. and noon.

About 20 to 30 minutes of morning light is enough to affect BMI.

"If a person does not get sufficient light at the appropriate time of day, it could de-synchronise your internal body clock which is known to alter metabolism and can lead to weight gain," Zee added.

Just like people are trying to get more sleep to help them lose weight, perhaps manipulating light is another way to lose weight, said the study published in the journal PLOS ONE.

Brilliant ways to get a flatter belly

Brilliant ways to get a flatter belly

Brilliant ways to get a flatter belly
Get a flatter belly

Worried why all your ab exercises aren't showing the results you want? Maybe you are missing something. These simple tips will make your workout work better for you...

Begin with small moves
Begin easy — you cannot go on a cyclothon before you know how to cycle and similarly you cannot do 50 crunches the first time you learn how to do it. Work a small range — hold a plank for 20 seconds or do only 10 crunches in the beginning.

Warm enough?
Some people do not realise the importance of a proper warm up before a workout session, and believe that it is a waste of time. But, warming up your muscles prevents injury. A little walking, marching on the spot, rotating your mid-section gently, bending forwards to touch your toe, etc can warm up your core for an ab workout.

Breathe
Oxygen is important for your core muscles, if you want them to work their full capacity. So, don't hold your breath. Inhale when you are doing the easy part of the move, and exhale when you have to exert force.

For example — exhale when you are on the way up while doing crunches.

Don't get distracted
If you thought only your muscles play an important role when it comes to doing those push ups, you were wrong — our mind too plays an important part in workout schedules. So, avoid watching TV while exercising, instead concentrate on the muscles, and feel them move, stretch and contract. It will improve your results.

Be an all rounder
When you want a flat belly fast, the trick is to do movements in all dimensions. Don't just concentrate on crunches — include other exercises and asanas like Vakrasana that help you twist and turn your body.

Balance
For strong abs you should try to incorporate some balance into your routine. Even something as simple as — standing on one leg while the other feet rests on your thigh, arms raised above your head and palms touching — the Vriksasana or the Tree pose.

Rest it out
Your workout will only work for you if you give yourself adequate rest. Overworking your abs won't help. The rest will help the muscles recover and will make them stronger.

Slow and steady
Speeding up your workout will not help. Slow down and you will burn fat better.

Try yoga
Sick of gymming? Try yoga. Most yoga poses are excellent for strengthening the core. Yoga not only exercises your mind along with your body, but it makes you flexible and reduces your stress-levels.

Weight matters
Your abdominal muscles could do better if they are challenged with some weights. With a kilo or so thrown in, your regular workout can give you even better results.

Pay attention to what you eat
If you want washboard abs, you need to eat right — just going through gruelling gym routines day after day, will not work. A city-based nutritionist says, "Make sure your diet consists of plenty of protein, low fat milk and milk products, fruits and fresh vegetables
.

Daily habits that may be harming you

There are some habits that most of us have which may be harmful for you in the long run. You are probably doing it all right — drinking enough water, exercising every day, taking the stairs instead of the elevator — but a few everyday habits if neglected can become the reason for worry. Read on to find out more which daily habit you should avoid...

Don't sit cross-legged all the time
According to a study, sitting with legs crossed can increase blood pressure. Leg crossing, reportedly, increased systolic blood pressure nearly 7% and diastolic by 2%. One should ideally avoid sitting cross-legged (crossing the legs at the knee) for longer than quarter of an hour. Orthopedic surgeon Dr Phadke says, "Do not keep sitting at one place for too long. After every 45 minutes take a little walk."

Always stand with your knees bent a little
Avoid standing with your knees locked because it leads to increased pressure and stress on your joints. Make sure your knees are relaxed and slightly bent. You should use the muscles that are surrounding your joints — if your knees are locked these muscles are not used and the joints have to bear the weight.

Do not sleep on your stomach all the time
If you thought that sleeping on your stomach will make your paunch go away, you are wrong. If you do not sleep on your back then the neck remains in an unnatural position and that may hamper circulation. Change your position when you are lying down.

Avoid wearing very tight belts
You want to look slim and a tight belt that is cinched at your waist can give you an hourglass look. However, this can hamper your digestion. Dr Nupur Krishnan, nutritionist says, "Tight belts worn for a long time tighten the stomach and create pressure inside your abdomen. Digestion can not happen properly and it may lead to acidity. It is best to avoid wearing belts that are too tight." Ideally, belts should only be that tight so that one should be able to sit comfortably, bend down and breathe normally with it tightened.

Avoid stretching as soon as you are awake
The discs at your back can be harmed if you stretch as soon as you are awake states Dr Upasini. As soon as you wake up, you should get up and move around, get into some activity like brushing, walking and then stretch your back he advises. Stretching as soon as you are awake can lead to severe backache and neck pain sometimes.

Do not chew gum all the time
Most of us mindlessly keep chewing gum all day. If it is a sweet one, it harms your teeth and the unsweetened ones can harm your jaw muscles.

Carry your bag differently every time
Most of us unknowingly put a lot of stress on our shoulders. Orthopedic surgeon Dr Tejas Upasini says, "Doing asymmetrical repetitive activities often result in muscular imbalances and pain. If you make a habit of carrying your handbag or purse only on your right shoulder, it becomes a pattern and there are muscle imbalances that may cause pain." Carrying lighter bags is a wise decision and also, when carrying a bag one must make sure to change the shoulder or the hand often."

Stop wearing super-tight jeans
Wearing very tight jeans and pants can lead to many health problems. If your jeans restrict your movements in any way then it is not the right one for you. At the end of the day if you feel that you are desperate to take it off and slip into something comfortable, then you should discard your tight jeans.

Keep a check on your posture
Believe it or not, the correct posture can, not just make you look slimmer and younger; it can also avoid aches and pains on your back, and shoulder. Slouching can, in the long run, really affect your shoulder and back. The right way to stand is to hold your head high, pull your stomach in and square your shoulders. Try this: Stand straight against a wall and keep your shoulders squared — the back of your head should be touching the wall, there should be space between you and the wall, at small of your back and your buttocks and heels should be touching the wall
.

Benefits of drinking water early in the morning

Drinking water in empty stomach in the morning can be immensely beneficial for the body

We tend to complicate things when it comes to taking care of our health. A few simple steps can go a long way in taking care of our health, and one easy way of ensuring it is by drinking sufficient water in empty stomach first thing in the morning. Not only does it clear your stomach, it goes a long way in reducing the risk of a number of diseases. Firstly, it purifies the colon and it improves the stomach's chances to absorb nutrients properly. A better digestive system automatically takes care of a lot of other things. It is also one of the secrets behind a glowing skin, as water removes the toxins from the blood. Drinking water also improves the creation of new blood cells as well as muscle cells, and helps you in losing weight.

Also, make sure not to eat anything for a while after you drink water in the morning. This water treatment therapy has no side effects and boosts your metabolism greatly. About four glasses of water (one litre) on an average daily would be great. If it feels too much in the beginning, you can start off slowly and then gradually increase the intake.
