Did you know there are foods for a longer erection? Dr Vijay Singhal, Sexologist with Delhi based Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute lists out different foods that you can eat for a longer erection.

Watermelons, papayas and bananas (rich in potassium) increase blood flow by dilating arterioles (small blood vessels) and thus help in improving an erection.

Nuts, milk and cheese contain zinc, which is good for the male sex hormone testosterone, which in turn is required for an erection.

Also, garlic and onion contain allicin, which helps increase blood flow.

Similarly, dark chocolates contain flavanoids which increase blood flow.

Cherries have been found effective in promoting health by scavenging action against free radicals.

Walnuts which are rich in omega 6 fatty acids and arginine help in the production of nitric oxide, thus causing relaxation of arterioles and increasing the blood flow.

One must note that in some cases, diabetes leads to erectile dysfunction. Therefore, for diabetics, it is important to have control over sugar levels and maintain a healthy diet.

Also, patients who suffer from hypertension face erection problems and should try a low salt diet.

Mozilla's push for open mobile OS gains steam
Mozilla joined Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica, LG, Qualcomm, ZTE and TCL/Alcatel in creating an Open Web Device Compliance Review Board.
WASHINGTON: Mozilla has teamed up with global partners in a push for open mobile standards as it ramps up its efforts to develop smartphones challenging Google and Apple operating systems.

The California-based non-profit foundation joined Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica, LG, Qualcomm, ZTE and TCL/Alcatel in creating anOpen Web Device Compliance Review Board

The new entity will set technical standards for anopen mobile operating system which would be an alternative to the closed systems now used in smartphones based on Apple's iOS or Google's Android.

The first smartphones using the Mozilla's Firefox mobile operating system were launched earlier this year, made by China's ZTE and the small Spanish-based manufacturer GeeksPhone.

Mozilla, which is known for its open-source Firefox web browser, is seen as having a tough order challenging the dominance of existing smartphone platforms.

But Mozilla's Andreas Gal said "users want a wide selection of devices and great apps."

Having uniform technical standards, Gal said, would help get new products to the market.

"This is the next step in building the ecosystem and will make it easier for partners to get a wide selection of high-quality solutions into consumers' hands quickly and efficiently," Gal added.

Qualcomm vice president Jason Bremner, said the technical body "will set a clear path for any organization to commercialize open web devices."

Sales of the ZTE Firefox phone began this year in the US and Britain. The Mozilla Foundation claims to have at least 17 operators on board and plans to launch phones in Brazil, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland and Serbia

Twitter gives in to user protests over ‘block’ feature

Twitter gives in to user protests over ‘block’ feature

Twitter gives in to user protests over ‘block’ feature
Twitter was forced to nix a change to its "block" feature after attracting a wave of protest from users.

SAN FRANCISCO: Twitter was forced to nix a change to its "block" feature on Thursday after attracting a wave of protest from users who said the new policy empowered perpetrators of online abuse.

The humbling reversal on one of the most sensitive policy issues facing the social network came as Twitter encountered user revolt for the first time as a public company.

Under the short-lived change on Thursday, a blocked Twitter user could view or tweet at the person who blocked him or her, but that activity would have been rendered invisible to the victim as if the offending account did not exist.

Under the re-instated policy, users could prevent their harassers from following them or interacting with their tweets. Users are also explicitly notified if they are blocked.

Before it backtracked, Twitter had said that the change was meant to protect victims of harassment who wanted to filter out abusive messages but feared that the act of blocking a user would prompt retaliation.

"We have decided to revert the change after receiving feedback from many users -- we never want to introduce features at the cost of users feeling less safe," vice president of product Michael Sippey wrote in a blog post.

Chief executive Dick Costolo initially sought to address the mounting criticism by saying on Twitter that the new features were widely requested by victims of abuse.

But many were not convinced. Within hours, the service was flooded with angry users, including many who did not understand the nuances of the new policy, and hundreds had signed an online petition to reverse the change.

"New @twitter block policy is like a home security system that instead of keeping people out puts a blindfold on YOU when they come in," said user @edcasey.

"'Just ignore them & they'll stop' is a dangerous thing to say to bullied kids & a dangerous thing to say to stalked/harassed Twitter users," wrote @red3blog, another user.

Keeping abuse in check is a key issue for the company, which needs to keep hold of existing users and attract hundreds of millions of new ones to justify the stratospheric valuation that investors have placed on its stock.

Twitter shares have risen 35% to $55.33 the past two weeks on investor expectations that the company can sustain its growth for years and mature into an internet powerhouse.

The changes were announced on Thursday after the market close.

The company's swift about-face similarly drew an outpouring of relief.

"The people have spoken and Twitter listened, thanks," said user @samar_ismail.

The controversy highlighted Twitter's dilemma over how it should police the freewheeling service or stamp out abuse.

Twitter, which once espoused a radically hands-off approach to moderating content, was pressed in August to strengthen its "Report Abuse" functions after two high-profile women in the United Kingdom, feminist and journalist Caroline Criado-Perez and Labour Party politician Stella Creasy, were subjected to a deluge of death and rape threats.

Twitter's top executive in the UK, Tony Wang, and Del Harvey, the head of its trust and safety team, issued personal apologies to the women after revising Twitter's rules.

Twitter said that the company's policies were still evolving and that the block feature remained problematic because some users were fearful that their harassers would be notified when they become blocked.

"Moving forward, we will continue to explore features designed to protect users from abuse and prevent retaliation," Sippey, the Twitter executive, wrote.

"We've built Twitter to help you create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers. That vision must coexist with keeping users safe on the platform."

The backlash was a rare event for a company that for the most part has been hailed for championing its users, who now number more than 250 million worldwide.

Although Twitter has made unpopular design tweaks, it has maintained a better policy record than social media rival Facebook, which has repeatedly upset users with abrupt changes to its privacy policies

Sony unveils pen drives for smartphones, tablets
Sony has launched the world’s first pen drives compatible with smartphones and tablets.
NEW DELHI: Eyeing a new market for data storage devices, Sony has launched the world's first pen drives compatible with smartphones and tablets. The new flash drives are "2-in-1 devices" with both USB 2.0 and microUSB connectors, allowing buyers to use them in laptops and desktops as well as smartphones and tablets.

Viviano Cantu, director of consumer media marketing, Sony Electronics, said, "These new drives combine convenience, peace of mind and performance and are perfect for mobile multi-tasking."

The new drives are compatible with Android (Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean) operating systems and offer USB on-the-go (OTG) functionality. Sony says that it is working on making them compatible with Android 4.4 (KitKat), the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.

Apart from copying data between devices, these flash drives can be used to as additional or temporary storage for smartphones and tablets.

Their locking caps (available in three colours) will protect the connectors from damage, dust and debris, says Sony. The metal body of the flash drives is durable enough to withstand everyday mobile use, it claims.

Sony has said that the new flash drives will be available in of 8, 16 and 32 GB capacities, priced at $19.99, $29.99 and $62.99. While the Japanese manufacturer has not announced their India launch date, it has said that the flash drives will hit global markets in January next year.

Strong challengers to Apple iPad

Strong challengers to Apple iPad

Strong challengers to Apple iPad
Apple faces its strongest slate of challengers this holiday season, with several tablets besting the trend-setting iPad on price and features.

NEW YORK: Once upon a time, people who craved a tablet computer bought an iPad.
But Apple faces its strongest slate of challengers this holiday season, with several tablets besting the trend-setting iPad on price and features.
There are still plenty of reasons to get an iPad - either the full-size iPad Air starting at $499 or the iPad Mini at $399. Versions of both are available for $100 less, but you get a slower device with a lower-resolution screen. The Air is lighter and thinner than previous full-size models, and it feels nice in your hands.
Whichever one you get for your loved one, the iPad offers this:
* An unmatched selection of high-quality apps, many of them adapted for the tablet's larger screen. Many apps for Android tablets are simply phone apps blown up, while the Windows app store has a smaller selection.
* A screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. That's the standard size for photos and older television shows, and it displays more content when Web surfing with the tablet held horizontally. That said, the wider aspect ratio found on Android and Windows tablets are better for widescreen video.
* Great syncing with other Apple devices, if the recipient of your gift has any. When setting up an Apple TV streaming device, for instance, you can simply place your iPad near it and bypass screens of prompts. Directions on the Mac's new Maps app can be sent to the iPad with two clicks. You can read and reply to iPhone texts from the iPad or a Mac.
But for a top-notch experience, you'll pay a top-notch price. That's where Android tablets come in.
You can get Amazon.com Inc's Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 for $120 less than the iPad Air, at $379. It's even lighter, by about 17 percent, though I couldn't feel much of a difference holding the two side by side. The Kindle's screen has a higher resolution, but the display measures just 8.9 inches (22.6 centimeters) diagonally compared with the Air's 9.7 inches (24.6 centimeters).
For a smaller tablet, you can get a 7-inch (17.5-centimeter) Kindle Fire HDX or a 7-inch Google Nexus 7 for $229, or $170 less than the latest iPad Mini.
With the Mini, though, you get a larger screen, at 7.9 inches (20 centimeters). LG Electronics' G Pad 8.3 offers an 8.3-inch (21-centimeter) screen for $350, or about $50 less than the Mini. Sync the G Pad with an Android phone to see who's calling on your tablet, though you still need the phone to answer it. You can read and reply to texts from the tablet, as long as they don't have photos or video attached. You're limited to one reply and can't initiate a text from the tablet, however. That's where iPads do better.
As for the Kindle, there's one important limitation. The Kindle runs a modified version of Android, and only a subset of Android apps works on it.
On the flip side, Amazon is alone in offering live tech support 24 hours a day, seven hours a week. Hit the "Mayday" button on an HDX, and a representative will appear in a video box within seconds. The representatives can only hear you and see what's on your screen. They can help guide you by placing orange markers on your screen or taking control of your device completely. This feature makes the Kindle excellent for your tech-challenged loved ones. Just train them to call Mayday - rather than you - every time the device's volume needs adjusting.
Owners of Samsung phones might prefer a companion tablet, such as the $550 Galaxy Note 10.1. Sporting a stylus and several note-taking features, the Note is good for those who handwrite a lot of notes. But beware: The tablet's text-recognition software makes plenty of mistakes.
Avid readers, meanwhile, might be drawn to an Arc tablet from e-book specialist Kobo. Prices range from $150 to $400 depending on screen size and quality. The home screen has quick access to books and recommendations. A reading mode blocks distractions such as notifications and sounds, while adjusting screen brightness. You can even turn Wi-Fi off completely in reading mode to avoid temptations to check email and Facebook.
Some Android tablets also address one of the iPad's major shortcomings: It's not meant for sharing. The Nexus, the G Pad and the Arc tablets are among those that let you create multiple profiles. The Nexus also lets you restrict what kids can do under their profiles, though that feature is rudimentary.
Beyond Android, you have plenty of Windows tablets to choose from, all with multi-user capabilities. The app selection is limited compared with iPads and most Android tablets. But Windows tablets are the only ones to offer a full version of Microsoft's Office software. It's free with tablets running a lightweight version of Windows 8.1 called RT. With iPads and Android tablets, you're limited to Web versions of Office.
Microsoft sells a 10.6-inch (27-centimeter) RT tablet, the Surface 2, for $449. For $130 more, you can get a keyboard cover with keys that move. A more powerful version, the Surface Pro 2, starts at $899. It runs a regular version of Windows 8.1, meaning it can run older Windows programs, not just ones designed for RT. Microsoft markets these as laptop replacements, and the cover has been redesigned such that it works better for typing on your lap.
A newcomer to tablets is Nokia, traditionally a phone maker. Nokia's first-ever tablet, the Lumia 2520, has a brightly colored plastic back that helps it stand out in a crowd.
It costs $499, the same as the iPad's starting price. But it comes with access to 4G LTE cellular networks, something that costs $130 more for iPads and $100 for the Kindle. That's something really useful for those away from Wi-Fi a lot. Data charges aren't included. Price reductions are available with service contracts or bundled with Nokia smartphones

Beware Team India: Testing times ahead
The "bounce-back" process has to start from Benoni, where the Indians will face a decent team which has promising players like Chris Morris and Riley Rossouw. (AFP Photo)

JOHANNESBURG: The evening showers in Centurion on Sunday might well have saved India the ignominy of a 3-0 whitewash in the one-day internationals. However, the feeling in the South African camp is that Indian players will carry "some scars" from their ODI mauling into the Tests, which starts in six days' time.

There's a two-day practice game in Benoni starting on Friday against the South African Invitational XI and the process of getting the house in order has to start from there.

The Test specialists who are certainties in the XI - M Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara and Zaheer Khan - need to get some playing time in the middle along with ODI failures like Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and R Ashwin.

The Indian team, of course, is trying to play down the verbal assault of the South Africans before they get into Test mode. While Zaheer said "those are merely big talks of the opposition", Ashwin refused to acknowledge that India's performance had been disastrous.

"What's a disaster? We use such terms when it's a world war. Things haven't exactly gone in our favour in ODIs and we have learnt some important lessons ahead of the Tests," Ashwin said.

The Indians didn't get a bat against the South African attack on Wednesday night due to rain, so it's difficult to predict what they have actually learnt during the course of their 141 and 134-run losses in the first two matches.

However, the bowlers, especially Ishant Sharma, looked more incisive than in Durban and figures of 4-40 might have come as a relief for the paceman. "It's all in the mind. We have been working very hard on our game and there's belief that we can bounce back," Ishant said.

The "bounce-back" process has to start from Benoni, where the Indians will face a decent team which has promising players like Chris Morris and Riley Rossouw

Coach Duncan Fletcher has been working on the shot selection of the players and the Benoni game will show how much they have learnt. It's crucial for the likes of Pujara and Vijay to get into the groove as early as possible.

Pujara, who has been in prime form both in international and domestic cricket, is looking to carry the confidence into this series as well.

"We have been here for a week and working on our game. We have been constantly told that if we can get the first few overs out, batting can be enjoyable on these tracks," India's No. 3 said.

Vijay also has a plan in mind and says it's about negotiating the pace and bounce in the initial stages of the innings. "We have to leave some balls early. I have been to South Africa before and have a fair idea how to go about things," the Tamil Nadu opener said. Used to playing on the docile tracks of India, these technical adjustments are easier said than done.

"It's already been difficult for them and come Jo'burg (the venue of the first Test), we are looking to make it even tougher," South Africa skipper AB de Villier's said. It's up to Dhoni's devils to take it up and make it an even contest in the Test series
.

Obama, Cameron 'selfie' at Mandela memorial creates online stir

obama-cameron-selfie-635.jpg
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela's memorial service with his stirring eulogy on Tuesday, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz.
In a candid moment captured by AFP photographer Roberto Schmidt, Denmark's Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto's World Cup stadium.
First Lady Michelle Obama, sitting to the left of her husband, does not join in with the lightheartedness, keeping her eyes firmly trained on the podium where world leaders were paying tribute to South Africa's anti-apartheid hero Mandela, who died Thursday aged 95.
The so-called selfie short for self-portrait was quickly picked up by major international news outlets and went viral on social media sites, with many questioning whether the moment of mirth was appropriate for the occasion.
"There should be a moratorium on 'selfies' during memorials and funerals, no?" tweeted @JeffryHalverson.
"Is This The Most Important Selfie Of 2013?" headlined the US-based social news website Buzzfeed, noting that Michelle Obama seemed "not amused" by the impromptu photoshoot.
Cameron's Downing Street office said it had "no comment" on the photo, while the White House also made no comment. There was no immediate reaction from Copenhagen.
The act of taking selfies has become increasingly popular in recent years. The word itself was named this year's word of the year by Oxford Dictionaries.
selfie is defined as "a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website".
The AFP photographer who captured the leaders in their group shot said his picture showed the dignitaries in a rare unscripted moment.
"It was interesting to see politicians in a human light because usually when we see them it is in such a controlled environment. Maybe this would not be such an issue if we, as the press, would have more access to dignitaries and be able to show they are human as the rest of us," he said.
But Schmidt said he feared the photo's global impact could overshadow what was "a celebration for an obviously exceptional person".
"The AFP team worked hard to display the reaction that South African people had for the passing of someone they consider as a father. We moved about 500 pictures, trying to portray their true feelings, and this seemingly trivial image overshadowed everything else," he said.
"I think it's a sad reflection on how sometimes we focus, as a society, on trivial everyday happenings."
Schmidt's photo of the three leaders posing for the selfie can be found on AFP's Tumblr page.

Twitter shares touch new high, sail past $52

Twitter shares touch new high, sail past $52

twitter-shares-all-time-high-reuters-635.jpg
Investors piled into Twitter Inc for the second straight day, lifting its shares to more than $52 and setting a new intraday high on Tuesday even in the absence of any significant announcements from the social media debutante.
Shares of Twitter were up 6 percent to $52.20 on Tuesday afternoon after a frenzied trading session on Monday, when Twitter closed up nearly 10 percent, its biggest gain ever.
Since the loss-making San Francisco-based firm held its closely watched initial public offering last month, its fans on Wall Street have strained to reinforce the bull case for a stock priced at increasingly inflated multiples compared to social media peers like Facebook Inc and LinkedIn Corp.
Twitter has released a spate of management news and product updates since its IPO, but some announcements, such as the official roll-out of a lucrative, cookie-based ad targeting technology called "targeted audiences," have been preceded for months by prior announcements.
In a research note on Friday, Evercore analyst Ken Sena said "targeted audiences" has been publicly in the works but raised his price target anyway from $43 to $52 because the deployment of the technology "might not be as costly as we originally modeled."
Twitter which went public on the New York Stock Exchange on November 7, is now trading at roughly double its IPO price of $26 a share with an implied valuation of more than $26 billion on just $168.6 million in revenue in the third quarter.
The San Francisco-based firm touched its previous intraday high of $50.09 on the day of its IPO.

The Xolo Q500 continues the Q range tradition and equips a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 with Adreno 203 and 1GB of RAM. The Xolo Q500 is the first budget smartphone which is powered by a Snapdragon 200 processor, which has been a chipset of mid-range smartphones like the HTC Desire 500.
