DUBAI: His side may have lost in the final but Mahendra Singh Dhoni was on Monday named captain of the 2014 ICC World Team of the Tournament that figures four Indians, including star batsman Virat Kohli.

Opener Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin are the other two Indian players who feature in the team that was announced by the ICC.

Kohli was adjudged Player of the Tournament for amassing 319 runs with the help of four half centuries, including knocks of 72 and 77 in the semifinal and final of the showpiece event.

Besides Indians, the team has two players from both South Africa and West Indies, and one representative each from Australia, the Netherlands and champions Sri Lanka.

Chosen by a select group of experts, the team was aimed at being suited for Bangladesh conditions, on the basis of performances in the tournament only. Statistics were used but were not the sole basis for selections.

Selection Panel Chairman and member of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, David Boon, said of the selection: "It was a very difficult task for the panel to pick a team of 11 from the exciting players who featured in this tournament.

"As the selection criteria for the Team of the Tournament are the performances of players in the conditions during the ICC World Twenty20 2014, some of the best players in world cricket had to be left out of the team.

"Bowlers in particular performed strongly throughout this tournament, and the side we have selected includes three of the most impressive bowlers in Dale Steyn, Samuel Badree and Lasith Malinga. The team also contains six specialist batsmen, including Stephan Myburgh from the Netherlands as an opening batsman, as well as three all-rounders, including MS Dhoni as a wicket-keeper batsman."

The panel faced a difficult choice for a number of positions, and players who were considered but who did not ultimately make the team included India's Amit Mishra, Pakistan's Ahmed Shehzad, the South Africa duo of A B de Villiers and Imran Tahir, Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews and Rangana Herath, and West Indies' Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine.

Men's Team of the Tournament (in batting order):

Rohit Sharma (India) - 200 runs

Stephan Myburgh (Netherlands) - 224 runs

Virat Kohli (India) - 319 runs

JP Duminy (South Africa) - 187 runs

Glenn Maxwell (Australia) - 147 runs

MS Dhoni (India - captain, wicketkeeper) - 50 runs, six dismissals

Darren Sammy (West Indies) - 101 runs

Ravichandran Ashwin (India) - 11 wickets

Dale Steyn (South Africa) - nine wickets

Samuel Badree (West Indies) - 11 wickets

Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka) - five wickets

12th Player: Krishmar Santokie (West Indies) - eight wickets

NEW DELHI: Sachin Tendulkar today stood firmly behind a beleaguered Yuvraj Singh, saying that the talented left-hander "is down but far from being out" and backed him to make it to the 2015 World Cup squad.

Tendulkar, who has always been a mentor to Yuvraj had soothing took to social networking site Facebook to motivate the player who has been castigated from all quarters for his 21--ball-11 that led to India scoring only 130 for three in 20 overs.

"Yuvi, one off day cannot undermine your tremendous contribution in many sweet memories over the years. You may be down today but you are far from being out," Tendulkar wrote on his Facebook page.

"I want you to know that there are many like me in India and across the world, who keenly look forward to you being a part of the campaign to defend the ODI World Cup title in 2015," Tendulkar came out openly in support of the player.

While Tendulkar agreed that Yuvraj can be criticized for his slow batting but people should stop short of writing his epitaph or predict the end of his international career.

"Last evening, Yuvi had a tough day and he can be criticized. But he should not be crucified nor should he be written off."

The iconic batsman is confident that Yuvraj will make a great comeback proving his detractors wrong once again.

"I have been an admirer of Yuvi's indomitable spirit which has overcome many challenges, both on and off the field. Knowing Yuvi's determination and ability to fight adversities, he will emerge stronger, proving his critics wrong, yet again."

Tendulkar along with former skipper Sourav Ganguly has backed Yuvraj since his nascent days in international cricket.

When Yuvraj was detected with rare germ-cell cancer, Tendulkar had travelled all the way to UK to visit him

NEW DELHI: Riding on a brilliant knock by Virat Kohli and a fiery cameo from Suresh Raina in crunch situation, India stormed into World T20 final as they beat South Africa by six wickets in the second semifinal in Mirpur on Friday.

Scorecard

Kohli made an unbeaten 72 in 44 balls while Raina scored 10-ball-21 as India chased down a competitive 173 with five balls to spare.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma too chipped in with 32, 24 respectively.

India got off to a flying start in their chase as they scored over ten runs in first three over.

Rohit Sharma scored 24 and shared a solid 39-run opening stand with Rahane before falling to Beuran Hendricks in the fourth over.

Sharma 24 came off just 13 balls and were studded with four boundaries and a six.

Wayne Parnell gave India second blow by getting rid of Ajinkya Rahane after his 32-run knock to give South Africa hope.

Rahane, who a looking in a fine touch, played badly against the bounce to give an easy catch to AB de Villers at the score of 77 in the 10th over.

Earlier, skipper Faf du Plessis came back from his one-match suspension with an attractive half-century as South Africa posted a challenging 172/4.

Riding on Du Plessis' 58 off 41 balls and senior campaigner Jean-Paul Duminy's 40-ball-45, the Proteas scored their highest total against India in the tournament so far. David Miller's 12-ball-23 also helped to prop up the total, which went past 170.

Barring Ravichandran Ashwin, who had brilliant figures of three for 22 from his four overs, other Indian bowlers had a disappointing day in office.

Amit Mishra gave his worst performance (0/36 in three overs) in the tournament, even as Dhoni was unable to complete the quota of his three specialist bowlers.

Most impressive part about South Africa's batting was that their batsmen did not try to fight the conditions. Du Plessis showed the virtue of spending some time before going on the ascendancy, while the seasoned Duminy also played an important hand in the team's total.

Duminy-Du Plessis pair added 71 runs in 8.4 overs for the third wicket, which laid the foundation for a fighting score. Both these batsmen decided to play out Ashwin and attack the other bowlers which yielded desired results.

Quinton de Kock (6) got a debatable caught behind decision off Bhuvneshwar Kumar's bowling. The left-handed opener flashed at a wide delivery from the seamer but it deviated taking an under-edge that was caught by Dhoni behind the stumps. Umpire Ian Gould gave the decision after some contemplation but the batsman looked unhappy.

Hashim Amla (22) continued with his fine batting and drove Mohit Sharma on the rise to get a streaky boundary. Du Plessis followed the suit charging out to the young seamer and hitting him over mid-wicket for a four.

However, Amla's free-hitting did not last long even though he got a couple of more boundaries in Bhuvneshwar's next over. Ashwin coming from round the wicket bamboozled Amla with a carom ball that spun like a classical leg-break. He played for the turn and saw the off-stump being pegged back

CHANDIGARH: Gautam Gambhir led from the front with a breezy unbeaten 75 as Delhi cruised to a nine-wicket win over Haryana to record their fourth straight victory in a North Zone leg match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy on Friday.

Set a target of 141 runs by Haryana, star pair of Gambhir and Virender Sehwag (49) once again sizzled with the bat for Delhi, putting on a 96-ball 121-run stand for the opening wicket to set the platform for the win.

While Sehwag's was an unusually sedate knock, Gambhir was at his attacking best.

Gambhir's runs came off 53 balls during which he struck seven boundaries and three sixes. Sehwag, on the other hand, played second fiddle and hit just three fours and one six during his 50-ball knock.

Sehwag was the lone Delhi wicket to fall, bowled by right-arm pacer Harshal Patel in the 16th over.

After Sehwag's dismissal, Gambhir and Unmukt Chand (7 not out) ensured the win for Delhi with 15 balls to spare without any further damage.

Earlier, Haryana rode on half centuries from opener Avi Barot (51 off 42) and Guntashveer Singh (64 off 49) to post 140 for seven after opting to bat.

Apart from Barot and Guntashveer, no other Haryana batsmen could manage double digit scores. The duo scored 103 runs for the second wicket to propel Haryana to the modest score.

The lanky Ishant Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi with figures of four for nine from his quota of four overs.

Meanwhile, in another North Zone leg match Himachal Pradesh defeated Jammu and Kashmir by 17 runs at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali to register their second win in the tournament.

Sent in to bat, Himachal could only muster 127 for eight before coming out with am impressive bowling display to bundle out J&K for 110 in 19.3 overs.

Rishi Dhawan top-scored for Himachal with 44 off 40 balls. For J&K, left-arm spinner Waseem Raza (3/21) scalped three wickets while skipper Parveez Rasool (2/10) picked up two.

Chasing the paltry target, J&K batsmen crumbled in front of the pace trio of Akshay Chauhan (4/16), Rishi Dhawan (2/24) and Vikramjeet Malik (2/28) to slump to their fourth consecutive defeat in the event.

Abid Nabi (39) and Pranav Gupta (28) provided some sort of resistance for J&K but it was not enought to sail them home.

Brief Scores:

Delhi vs Haryana in Chandigarh: Haryana: 140 for seven in 20 overs (Guntashveer Singh 64, Avi Barot 51; Ishant Sharma 4/9).

Delhi: 142 for one in 17.3 overs (Gautam Gambhir 75 not out, Virender Sehwag 49; Harshal Patel 1/32).

Himachal Pradesh vs Jammu and Kashmir in Mohali: Himachal Pradesh: 127 for eight in 20 overs (Rishi Dhawan 44; Waseem Raza 3/21).

J&K: 110 all out in 19.3 overs (Abid Nabi 39, Pranav Gupta 28; Akshay Chauhan 4/16)

HP agrees to pay $57 million to settle shareholder lawsuit

HP agrees to pay $57 million to settle shareholder lawsuit

HP agrees to pay $57 million to settle shareholder lawsuit
Hewlett-Packard Co agreed to pay $57m to settle a lawsuit that accused the PC maker's former management of defrauding shareholders.

Hewlett-Packard Co agreed to pay $57 million to settle a lawsuit that accused the personal computer maker's former management of defrauding shareholders by abandoning a business model it had long touted.

The lawsuit was filed after former chief executive Leo Apotheker shocked investors on August 18, 2011 by announcing plans to refocus the company on business services and products.

He also revealed plans to scrap WebOS, whose rights HP had obtained when it bought Palm Inc in 2010; pay $11.1 billion for British software company Autonomy Plc; and possibly spin off HP's personal computer business. The company also halted sales of the TouchPad, after just seven weeks on the market.

"HP has reached a mutually acceptable resolution through a mediated settlement," said Sarah Pompei, an HP spokeswoman.

According to the proposed settlement, HP will deposit $57 million into an interest-bearing escrow account within 20 days of getting an approval by US District Judge Andrew Guilford in Santa Ana, California.

The lead plaintiffs include the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System; the Labourers' Pension Fund of Central and Eastern Canada in Oakville, Ontario; the LIUNA National Pension Fund and LIUNA Staff & Affiliates Pension Fund in Washington, D.C.; and Union Asset Management Holding AG in Frankfurt, Germany.

"We are very happy with the settlement and are glad to have achieved this recovery for the affected HP shareholders," said Jonathan Gardner, co-lead counsel for the class.

In the midst of a multi-year turnaround effort intended to revive growth, HP is trying to reduce its reliance on personal computers and move toward computing equipment and networking gear for enterprises.

The case is Gammel et al v. Hewlett-Packard Co et al, US District Court, Central District of California, No. 11-01404

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's total pay fell 67% in 2013

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's total pay fell 67% in 2013

The windfall saddled Zuckerberg with a huge tax bill, even though he limited his Facebook salary to just $1, according to regulatory documents filed Monday.
It marks the second straight year that Zuckerberg has realized a huge gain on the holding that he has accumulated in Facebook Inc since he started the company in 2004. In 2012, Zuckerberg made $2.3 billion off his stock options.
Zuckerberg, 29, now has exhausted his supply of stock options after exercising 60 million of them last year a price of 6 cents per share. He then sold 41.35 million shares for $55.05 apiece in December, primarily to pay for his tax bill on the gains.
Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, also donated 18 million Facebook shares to a Silicon Valley nonprofit. The December gift, then valued at nearly $1 billion, landed the couple at the top of The Chronicle of Philanthropy's annual list of the most generous Americans.
Even after selling and donating so much Facebook stock, Zuckerberg still owns 426.3 million Facebook shares currently worth $25.7 billion. The stock has more than doubled in value during the past year as Zuckerberg fulfilled his promise to sell more ads on the smartphones and tablet computers that bring in most of the traffic to Facebook's social networking service.
The Menlo Park, California, company now gets more than half of its ad revenue from mobile devices, up from 23% at the beginning of last year.
Like many company founders who have gotten wealthy off their early stakes, Zuckerberg asked Facebook to limit his annual salary to $1 annually. Besides that token sum, Zuckerberg also received perquisites valued at $653,164. All but $3,000 of that amount went toward Zuckerberg's bills for personal travel on chartered jets.
Excluding stock option gains, Zuckerberg's total compensation last year plunged 67% from nearly $2 million in 2012.
The Associated Press formula calculates an executive's total compensation during the last fiscal year by adding salary, bonuses, perks, above-market interest that the company pays on deferred compensation and the estimated value of stock and stock options awarded during the year. The AP formula does not count changes in the present value of pensions, a benefit that Facebook and most other technology companies don't provide.

Get ready to pay more when you buy apps on your iPhone and iPad.
NEW DELHI: Get ready to pay more when you buy apps on your iPhone and iPad. Apple has informed developers that it is increasing App Store prices in India and several other countries including Australia, Indonesia, Turkey and South Africa. At the same time, it is reducing prices in Israel and New Zealand. The change will take place in the next 24 hours.

The adjustment in price is due to changes in currency exchange rates. It's worth pointing out that Apple charges Rs 55 on the Indian App Store for an app that costs $0.99 on the US App Store. So the effective exchange rate at this point in time is Rs 55. The current exchange rate is approximately Rs 60 to a dollar.

The exact rate will only be available after the change takes place.

In a letter to developers, Apple's App Store team said, "Price adjustments on the App Store are made periodically due to changes in foreign exchange rates. Within 24 hours, you will see the new Pricing Matrix in the Rights and Pricing section of Manage Your Apps on iTunes Connect."

BlackBerry wins ban against Typo Products’s iPhone keyboard

BlackBerry wins ban against Typo Products’s iPhone keyboard

BlackBerry wins ban against Typo Products’s iPhone keyboard
A court order bans Seacrest's company, Typo Products LLC, from selling its iPhone keyboard in the US.

SAN FRANCISCO: Troubled smartphone maker BlackBerry has won an early round in its legal battle against an iPhone keyboard made by a startup co-founded by "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest.

A court order bans Seacrest's company, Typo Products, from selling its iPhone keyboard in the US while BlackBerry proceeds with a patent infringement case against the product. BlackBerry contends Typo Products ripped off the design from the physical keyboards used for typing on BlackBerry's phones.

US District Judge William Orrick in San Francisco ruled that BlackBerry is likely to prove its infringement claims against Typo Products and would be damaged if the sales of the $99 iPhone keyboard were allowed to continue.

The ban could be lifted later in the case if Typo Products prevails in its claims that its iPhone keyboard isn't based on any of BlackBerry's patented designs or technology.

"This ruling will help prevent further injury to BlackBerry from Typo's blatant theft of our patented keyboard technology," BlackBerry said in a statement.

Typo Products said it plans to appeal Orrick's ruling. "Typo will continue to make and sell innovative products that busy people can't live without," the Los Angeles company said in a statement.

In court papers, Typo Products warned that it might go out of business if it was not allowed to keep selling its iPhone keyboard.

Seacrest started Typo Products with entrepreneur Laurence Hallier last year. The iPhone keyboard went on sale in January as an alternative to typing on a touch screen.

The physical keyboards on BlackBerry's phones helped reshape the way that people used mobile devices.

But those phones have been waning in popularity since Apple. released the first iPhone in 2007, threatening BlackBerry's survival. As its losses have mounted, BlackBerry's market value has plummeted from more than $80 billion in 2008 to less than $5 billion today.

The Canadian company is trying to bounce back by focusing more on its software than its smartphones under CEO John Chen, who took charge last year. BlackBerry lost $5.9 billion in its last fiscal year ending March 1

Yahoo is in talks to buy online-video service News Distribution Network (NDN), according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
Yahoo is in talks to buy online-video service News Distribution Network (NDN), according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources. According to those sources, Yahoo could pay up to $300 million in the deal.

NDN, a video syndication service, is the fourth-largest video site, with 573 million video views. (Yahoo is fifth, with 384 million.) It doesn't make any of its own videos - it has a collection of 100,000 videos, and makes those clips available to sites such as Los Angeles Times, New York Daily News and Bloomberg.

The move would help Yahoo expand its videos to thousands of new sites, according to the WSJ.

An NDN spokeswoman denied that the company is in talks with Yahoo at this time.

Re/code reported last week that Yahoo was approaching popular YouTube stars and networks, trying to poach them for its own online video service.

This isn't the first time Yahoo has tried to make a name for itself in the video world. The company hired Katie Couric last year. It also put in a bid to buy Hulu last year, before it dropped out of the bidding. It was also looking to buy Dailymotion last year, before the talks fizzled.

World Twenty20: MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh rediscover the magic

World Twenty20: MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh rediscover the magic
All of Yuvraj's glory moments in T20 cricket have come while batting with Dhoni. (AFP Photo)

DHAKA: While they haven't spoken much during training, India skipper MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh had frequent mid-pitch consultations during their match-turning 84-run stand in 42 balls against Australia on Sunday. Often, the conversation was initiated by the former.

In the 18th over, bowled by Watson, Yuvraj chased a wide one outside off in a failed attempt at a slash. Dhoni walked down to the striker and asked the left-hander to consider standing on off and middle. Yuvraj did as told and found himself in great position to deposit a full toss on middle and leg over square-leg.

It was constructive feedback from Dhoni, a result of knowing the other person's strengths. With Dhoni, Yuvraj has starred in 164 ODI wins for India and his average, while scoring 5622 runs in those wins, is 49.68. They have batted together 64 times in ODIs and have added 2797 runs with nine 100-plus stands (all resulting in wins) and 13 fifty-plus stands. In Indian wins, they have scored 2080 runs.

They are a rocking pair in T20 Internationals too. They have batted 18 times and aggregated 657 runs with one 100-stand and four 50-plus stands. Yuvraj has played 38 T20Is and has been on the winning side in 22 of them, all with Dhoni. While his career average is 32.37, his average in winning games played with the Indian skipper is 49.78.

All of Yuvraj's glory moments in T20 cricket have come while batting with his captain. Remember who was there at the non-striker's end in Durban in 2007, when Yuvi hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over? Check out who his partner was when Yuvi carved Pakistan all over Motera during his 72 in 36 balls in December 2012 or at Rajkot last October, when he belted 77 in 35 balls as India chased down 202 against the Aussies.

Yuvraj's form and confidence looked shaky after two poor outings and India were in trouble at 66-4 in 11.3 overs as Dhoni walked in to bat. It was Yuvraj, though, who helped him out.

"When I went in, I was the new batsman, so obviously he gave me the feedback on what was happening," revealed Dhoni. "We knew that our partnership was very important. I always prefer that your main batsmen should bat deep," Dhoni analysed.

Deconstructing Yuvraj's knock, Dhoni said, "Yuvraj was brilliant because of the way he paced his innings. An innings like this was needed for him, where he can be expressive and be himself. We all know the kind of batsman he is. He can clear any ground in the world. It doesn't matter if it's a fast bowler or a spinner. He may struggle for the first five-seven deliveries. If you get him out, your good luck. Else, he'll take you out of the game."

If you search for some of the most endearing images or videos of Yuvraj's career, you will find him jumping over Dhoni in Karachi in February 2006 after he had scored 107 not out and added an unbroken 146 with the keeper to help India chase down 287 in 46.5 overs.

In another video, you will find him sprinting from fine-leg and jumping over his skipper in Brisbane in March 2008, after India beat Australia to win their maiden tri-series title. And then, there is the image of the two hugging each other at the Wankhede on April 2, 2011 after India won the World Cup.
